2020, Thought this would be a good flight with all I’ve learned, but that FMC I’m using betrayed me as I neared the time to install the STAR - get the feeling I must install at the onset, at the departure, and then change things while performing the arrival. Next flight, eh? So many other things work. Watched a Youtuber fly it and was glad to see the captured ILS approach had the same porpoising I’ve experienced - a tolerable quirk. Roma Fiumicino to Athens.

Second leg of my round the world tour, Brussels to Koln/Bonn. Just a short hop with a bit of rain. SayIntentions livened up the flight by assigning me a non existent runway with a nonexistent ILS frequency.

Was flying along the Trans-Canada highway through Glacier National Park and noticed what appears to be an avalanche blocking the road! :

This is Salon-de-Provence Air Base (LFMY), located some 5.2 NM from my starting point for a tour of France VFR’s cheap but plentiful airfields:

This is Salon Eyguières (LFNY) - 2020 freeware by magnetic333 which works fine in 2024 - a primitive altisurface at some 6000 ft in the Alps 71.7 NM northeast of my starting point:

Pro tip: if you’re doing an airfield tour and you’re using Direct To in the GTN 750 to load your next airfield, do not type LFNY instead of LFMY - it has unintended consequences.

Having said which it was an unexpected but pleasurable first flight in the 2024 Texan. Not the most sophisticated aircraft in the sim, but if you’re flying in VR at GA speeds a canopy always has an advantage over a cabin.

Particularly picturesque was the flight back which for much of the distance was spent in the valley of the Durance river - but screenshots suck in VR so you’ll have to take my word for it.

Mind you, I did take one - so it’s maybe not just the VR:

Couldn’t catch it in the screencap, but Thunder and Lightning in Career Mode. Nice.

A relaxing flight in v1.4.18.0 along the St. Lawrence Seaway from Quebec (CYQB) to Ottawa (CYND). This is Montreal and its airport from ~ 7,500 ft:

How did you find the Saab? Is the UNS more functional yet?

Making use of NEXRAD data to avoid rain on my way to Kasonombe (AYNM). No late go arounds here.

Spotted a gap between rain storms.

Been having a blast in 2024. Have done some stuff outside the sim to better the experience:

  1. Got a MSI 5090. The 32 of VRAM makes a huge difference.
  2. Upgraded my home internet speed
  3. Spent the time to properly macro my hardware to plane systems
  4. Migrated 3rd party planes and airports from 2020 to 2024.

One of my payware airports, KBFI, looks pretty good in 2024. Took the G2 to audit the airports I brought over. This is one of my favorite airports (the OG Boeing airport) as I don’t live to far from this airport and I drive by it regularly.

And really really enjoying the BlackSquare Turbine Dukie. This thing keeps you busy. Dealing with a bad battery, pressurization, cabin heat, fuel management, and engine care. Really fun and powerful plane that keeps you on your times. In 2024 seems 95% ok with only a few very minor bugs/quirks, but overrall very happy with it.

This is one of the minor “bugs” and has only happened once. The livery kinda messed up as shows black paneling where aircraft numbers should be. Only happened once but not a big deal:

Today I flew the newly released PMDG 777-200ER, wearing American Airlines retro-livery and powered by mighty Rolls Royce engines, from IniBuilds KLAX to IniBuilds KJFK. The flight was a great way to spend a lazy Sunday - due to some weather over the upper midwest, Simbrief routed me on an unusual southerly route, across the deserts of the American Southwest, over to Houston, just north of New Orleans, then northeast across Alabama, Georgia and the Carolinas to ride up the mid-Atlantic coast, approaching New York City from the south. BATC provided air traffic control and traffic injection for the whole flight, and - perhaps somewhat shockingly - worked absolutely perfectly for the entire flight.

39,000’ over Houston:

Heading up the Atlantic coast, northwards toward New York:

Lots of overcast and clouds around the Long Island area on final:

Despite that, I managed my best landing in any version of the 777, and did it with some kind of sporty winds.

In fact, the only glitch of the day is with Ini’s new 2024 version of KJFK - the jetway at my assigned Gate B2 at Terminal 8 was inoperable. I ended up calling the PMDG ground stairs for the aesthetics.

Took out the PAC-P 750 XSTOL from Auckland to explore the North Island of New Zealand. Eventually, we came to 90 Mile Beach, a popular place for various activities, including driving on the beach itself.

I figured, if people can drive on the beach, I can land my plane there, right?

Yes, I sure can. Taking back off in the sand, on the other hand… That’s a different story. Looks like we’re camping here for the night.
