Rochester (KROC) to Charlotte (KCLT) in the Fenix A321
A 1.5 hour flight in real-time live weather from Calexico (KCXL) to Ludlow (5CA4) via Jacqueline Cochran (KTRM).
It was sunny today in Southern California:
I did not see any Joshua trees when flying over Joshua Tree National Park, unfortunately:
Landing at Ludlow. Don’t bee fooled by the lights - the airport runway is just to the right of the freeway and is unlighted:

Flew from Los Angeles, California to Huntsville, Alabama in the FlightFX Citation 750 on VATSIM. Was given a nice late night shortcut…
Since I’m unable to travel much in the upcoming years I decided to start a major sightseeing tour in MSFS 2024 instead. I began with a one-hour tour across stormy Schleswig-Holstein, the northernmost state of Germany.
Starting at St. Peter Ording on the North Sea coast, I visited the beaches before turning east.
Next on my plan was Friedrichstadt, which was advertised online as a ‘Small Amsterdam’ in Schleswig-Holstein. I can definitely see the similarities!
What suprised me was that the photogrammetry of Kiel extended far south to the ‘Freilichtmuseum Molfsee’, an open-air museum that is hillariously neither in the village of Molfsee nor at the eponymous lake itself.
Further east I found the largest lake of the state, the Großer Plöner See, passing above Plön itself.
After the largest lake, I also visited the highest ‘mountain’, the Bungsberg, in the easternmost part of the state.
Returning towards Plön, I went south to Eutin, the castle of which is sadly just a flat texture on the ground.
To finish my little improvised tour I visited the famous Lübecker Tor (“Gate of Lübeck”) in the state capital of Lübeck itself.
Charlotte (KCLT) to Concord Regional (KJQF) in the Cowan bell U222 UT
Had 40 minutes to spare so took a short trip around three Fijian Islands:
Shortly after departing Vanua Balavu (NFVB)
Mago Island:
On final to the airstrip on the island (NFGO):
Next stop - Alo Island. At first I thought this was it
But it’s not - That’s Tuvuca Island. Alo is to the north-east:
Parked by a rather large hangar for such a small island:

2020, Denver to Burbank. My first and last flight in a 727 IRL. This was probably the best sim arrival into Burbank I’ve had. 2020 still holding its own.
Continued my sightseeing tour in the next German state - in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Starting near the state capital of Schwerin, I visited the Schweriner Schloss (Schwerin Palace), which actually looks quite nice in MSFS 2024!
Flying north I reached the Baltic Sea near the Hanseatic City of Wismar, visiting the old town.
Following the coastline I reached Kühlungsborn, one of the famous “Ostseebäder” (Baltic Sea seaside resorts).
Crossing the old border between Mecklenburg and Vorpommern, the two parts that make up the state, I reached the Hanseatic City of Stralsund, again crossing above the historic city center.
Crossing over to Rügen, the largest island of Germany, I reached its northernmost tip - Kap Arkona, where an ancient Slavic religious site was located.
Circling the island eastwards, I visited another patch of “Kreidefelsen” (chalk cliffs) at the Königsstuhl on the Jasmund Peninsula for my last sight to see on this tour.
Concord regional (KJQF) to Orlando (KMCO) in the default 737 max 8
Found some good flying weather going into Atlanta. DAL2353 KEWR to KATL in the Fenix A320
Edit: the compression on those landing pics ![]()
I had the option today of:
a) Sitting outside for an hour or so & shivering in 40-degree weather.
b) Sitting inside for an hour or so and looking out the window at the leaves falling off the trees in the garden, or
c) Go flying in sunny, tropical Noumea.
Now, which option - a), b) or c) do you think I chose?
You chose correctly!

Took on the third state on my sightseeing tour - this time it’s Brandenburg.
Starting in Perleberg in the northwestern Prignitz region. This tour has an inverted C-shape, so I’m ended up pretty much as far west as I started while reaching as far east as the Polish border.
Visiting Neuruppin, the birthplace of Theodor Fontane, one of the most famous authors from the Brandenburg region.
On my way east I came across the Schiffshebewerk Niederfinow (Niederfinow Boat Lift), the oldest working boat lift in Germany, which sits on the Oder-Havel Kanal.
Turning south and passing the entirety of Berlin, I visited the Spreewald region near Schlepzig.
Coming around to the west again (but this time south of Berlin instead of north), I decided to take two photos of the same city - Potsdam, where I used to live for 4 years during my master studies. The first one shows the Filmpark Babelsberg (Babellsberg Studios) from above, the oldest film studio in the entire world.
The second picture of Potsdam shows Sanssouci Palace, built by Prussian King Frederick the Great.
The final place to visit in Brandenburg is also the namesake of the entire state - the town of Brandenburg an der Havel, where I also spend a year of my life during my first job after uni.
KRKD → KBXM Just a short hop on the Maine coast turned into a rather annoying flight. First of all, it was too windy to fly:
…but after days of the weather not cooperating or Live Weather not matching actual conditions, I got impatient.
Then I was fighting my 25 year old MS Sidewinder joystick the entire flight as the USB connection kept dropping, forcing me to mess with the plug and restart Spad.Next each time in order to get control of the aircraft back. I’m definitely done with this thing and am getting myself a Honeycomb Foxtrot for Christmas.
The one positive for the flight was the scenery. Some really nice ground textures, and I’m not sure if this is a new 2024 feature, but it looked like there was not only nice water masking in the area, but also that the docks had been properly cut out from the water texture whereas they’d almost always look submerged in 2020.
Gale warning in effect to the northeast and a couple METARs reporting 25 knot gusts, but I figured I could just compensate by using Brunswick Exec’s giant 8000x200’ runways. If I got blown off centerline or touched down at an angle I’d have time to correct, right? Crabbed into the wind on final:
Nope. Wrecked it twice before it landed at what looked like a walking pace on my third reset. Super frustrating. This thing is like a leaf in a hurricane when Live Weather winds are above 20 knots. It wants to fly way, waaay too early. It’ll prematurely launch into the air on take-off unless you hold the stick forward, and when you finally do wrestle it on to the pavement on the landing, you’re basically at taxi speed and you can stop in a few feet. It’s like the wind is creating an enormous amount of lift when you’re still in ground effect. Screw it, I’m moving on from this leg and any notion of continuity in this aircraft’s condition.
A short flight in the Viking Air CL-415 from Mt Isa (YBMA) to Clonagh (YCGH) to test out some new controller settings.
Clonagh is just a dirt strip:
The CL-415 is remarkably well camouflaged for the Australian outback!

Nice medium haul from Helsinki to Heathrow using the Inibuilds A350, runs like a dream on the SU4 Beta. I had taken some photos along the way!
Bought Captain Sims Sopwith Camel for £7.50 from the mp.
Did a cold start at EGZK Stow Maries, a WW1 airstrip … you can see other WW1 aircraft parked up at the side ….. I wanted a grass strip and WW1 authenticity.
The detail inside the aircraft is good
I’m afraid the cold start is : turn on magnetos and ….. CTRL-E
Hey - ho
The flight model is good, in fact I’d say very good.
Ok, it’s on rails for take off (as are a lot of far more expensive aircraft), flying is great and landing is easy. Unlike the Albatross I just bought which ground loops, always.
The red button, above, is the ‘blipper’ switch - which works. Don’t depress for more than 5 seconds or the engine is out, true to life probably.
Will turn very steeply - part of its success in WW1.
Overall view out front is ok.
Oh look, I found a bridge ….. and what are bridges for in msfs?
So, all in all, I’m very pleased with this. £7.50 …… can’t really go wrong.
Explored the Goosenecks State Park, Utah, U.S.A., in real-weather, real-time. Then landed in the Monument Valley, which is only about ten minutes from the Goosenecks. The flight ceiling was 11,000 ft, as the ground below was 6,000 ft on average. The natural cloud cover was well above 11,000 ft, so I had no issues with sightseeing.
Goosenecks State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Utah, overlooking a deep meander of the San Juan River. The park is located near the southern border of the state, a short distance from Mexican Hat, Utah.
Goosenecks State Park is largely undeveloped. Primitive campsites with picnic tables are scattered back from the edge of the cliff, and vault toilets are available. Campers are advised to bring their own water, food, and other necessary gear.
There are no developed hiking trails in the park, but the Honaker Trail, a few miles to the northwest, provides access to the San Juan River.
