What does a noise that I randomly hear mean?

I hear the noise very randomly in the default airbus A320neo. The video is linked to a MS Sway.

It sounds like a knob turning then a windshield wiper. I will also hear that noise too when I ride on an A320/21 in real life.

Pretty sure that is hydraulic pressure being pumped up by external generator (maybe not external). All passenger jets do it (ones I’ve been on anyway).

@HamMan2118 I can’t play the video but when do you hear the noise? During engine start, in cruise, on approach etc. & some more details on the noise. The airbus A320 series have quite a collection of alert signals. Is it coming from the flight deck or the cabin IRL.

Hi, this is the sound the PTU (Power Transfer Unit) on the A320, which allows transmission of hydraulic force between the Green and Yellow hydraulic systems. This is not audible in thd cockpit IRL but very clear around the overwings.

I hear it normally when I start up the engines. It isn’t an alert signal.

Have heard that noise regularly when flying in A320s. Never knew what it was. Thanks.

As I did mention, I hear that sound all of the time when flying an A320/21. I always thought it was the engine starting. Well, now I know!

Captain Joe made a video about the barking of the Airbus 320:

Correct, it is the PTU doing its self test. From memory, it does this as the second engine is started. It senses a diff pressure of 500psi between the green & Yellow systems. It is a dual motor & pump assy connected to these hyd systems & can drive in either direction. If an engine is shut down & the hyd pressure on that system drops, the PTU cuts in to pressurise the system on the shut down engine. It does not transfer any hyd fluid between systems.
