Using SimConnect_RequestDataOnSimObject, I can get the nearest landmark in my bubble, I can get the nearest fauna in my bubble, and I can get the nearest airport in my bubble, but I can’t get the nearest city in my bubble. The request always returns an empty name string. This exact same code works fine in '20.
Thank you for your post! Your topic has been moved to a sub-category of the User Support Hub
The General Discussion category is meant for discussions that fall outside of our other sub-categories.
If you would like other users to help you with an issue you are experiencing in the sim, consider these User Support Hub categories for your future post:
No, don’t move it, I already moved you to SDK (which I know is missing from the canned answer above) - this is the closest category to what you’re asking.
Honestly, you might be better off asking this question in DevSupport forum. Unlike many end users who stumble in there asking questions that should be here - yours is a legit SDK scope question. Can’t guarantee Asobo will answer you there, but you’ll be rubbing shoulders with other established Third Party devs, someone might know.
I had to consult the SDK to know what SimConnect_RequestDataOnSimObject does, so consulting the SDK doesn’t help much. (But thanks anyway! )
I attempted to "ask in the dev forum. I was asked to “join” and in the process of doing so, somehow my password was changed. To this day, I have no idea how that happened. Thus, I live without the knowledge I have sought here.
Just a hobby, I think I’ll go flying. Have a nice day!
Thanks but this was my decision, a matter of security. To be clear, I attempted to create an account on the dev site and somehow something caused the master password on MY HARDWARE DEVICE (a PC) to change. I filed the paperwork to the usual support web sites and got the usual responses. I’m sure there’s a record of it all somewhere.
On the positive side, the mysterious HW freeze I’ve been experiencing appears to have been cured using a $30 memory upsize, 16->32GB. I know it was in the requirements. I was monitoring until the memory arrived so this may be the fix.
WRT the info I sought here, I’m just a hobbyist so I’m not losing anything.
Happy flying!
P.S. If you could get my original question answered, that would be great. If you can, perhaps you could also ask them why VS2019 can’t find SimConnect_AICreateNonATCAircraft_EX1, even though I updated the SDK. Thanks ahead of time!
Update: freeze is gone but my PC continues to crash and reset automatically. Not sure why. No direct indication in the event list. It takes a while. Might be GFX card.
