What has your VR experience been like in Microsoft 2024 so far?

Hi,
Thank you for this thread, good to know I’m not the only one with issues! (VR Toolbar, EFB etc)
I am coming over to MSFS from XP11 and would like to know how you are getting the frame rate counter displayed in VR? I can get it in desktop but not VR?
I have a Pimax Crystal Light.

Thanks

Many thanks to all you brave msfs2024 early users. I’m currently very happy with msfs2020 and while I do intend to upgrade to 2024 in the near future, I’m planning on waiting 2-3 months to allow early bugs to get squashed.

I also want to find out if my fairly large $ amount of payware scenery is going to work with 2024 and/or if inexpensive upgrades will be available or not. Thanks again mates and cheers.

Yes, I also should have waited 2-3 months before buying. But when I bought MSFS 2020 day 1, everything was working fine, I did not have so many problems : VR is unusable for me because I cannot appear in the cockpit (only ahead of the plane), but even worse : the game just DOES NOT WORK !!! I only could do a single “free flight”, then because of my VR problems I came back to the main menu, since then I cannot restart a new free flight (endlessly loading). Now MSFS 24 just crashed, and I cannot restart the game, I guess I will have to reinstall everything !!! MICROSOFT, PLEASE HELP THE USERS WHO BOUGHT YOUR GAME TO PLAY THE GAME !!!

People playing with a 4090 on 512x512 per eye resolution should clearly specify that in their comments.

I have a 4080 with a Pico4 and playing on ultra and “godlike” supersampling mode (3120x3120 per eye resolution)
No Frame gen - ie no fake distorted frames
No upscaling - ie no fake resolution

First flight in the middle of nowhere… 20-25fps…

Yeah… 2 years from now maybe?

DFR not directly supported by MSFS2024, the YouTuber who anoumced DFR availability was misinformed. But you can still use FFR or DFR in the OpenXR Toolkit.
Also no QuadViews is implemented or even planned.

if you can recount some of the actions you did to correct that, I would be most grateful

For FPS display use developer mode (I assume it works the same as it was in MSFS2020) or OpenXR Toolkit.

On my side it’s CTD on each attempts to fly VR. I tested disabling OpenXR, seems to work better but then in the settings I also ended up with CTD.

Having just done some more testing, 2024 is running at about 50% of the frame rate in VR compared to 2020 with the same settings, location and aircraft.
CPU usage in 2024 is much higher also, 5800x3d is between 50-65% load across all cores whilst in 2020 its 20-25%.

Reduced FPS here also with a AMD 7800x3d, 7900 XTX and a Pimax Crystal Light in Medium Render Resolution. Directly compared: Same place (St. Barths), same airplane (C172), same VR graphic settings but no raytracing shadows and no displacement mapping activated.
Result: Only 25 - 29 FPS in 2024 instead of 40 to 45 in 2020.

Reducing all graphic settings to ‘low’ brings 35 fps to the table. That’s the maximum I can get. Disappointing so far.

I think I have to look for a 4090 or a 5090 :frowning:

One of the worst VR experience,
The ground texture go complete blurred in VR.
Performance worst than 2020.

Just did a test with the Pimax Crystal on 0.9 resolution :
Same settings as 2020 : 27 fps max with a 35m/s latency
Turned every thing to low : 35 fps max with a 27/28 m/s latency
CPU isn’t doing anything, like everythings being dumped on the GPU.

So yeah, this is sheit.

FYI :
I’m using a 9800X3D with 64GB DDR5 6000MHz CL30 RAM and a RTX4090, so a little bit more then 35 fps should be doable (he says sarcasticly)

Ground Textures getting better over the time when everything was streamed.

Streaming aircraft was probably the best idea they ever had. If you are lucky, you have a complete set of textures in the cockpit… The performance in VR is incomparable to MSFS. I go back for a while I guess.

Am i missing something or are we not able to use the mouse in VR? The cursor is there but i am not able to click anything.
I have to pick up my VR controllers to click anything :frowning:

Is there a setting or some kind of toggle control thingy?

Yesterday I was able to take 1 flight, ended up crashing exactly the same as fs2020, just BOOM, desktop. No message or anything.
It happened at about 20 minute into the flight.

Performance, not as good as 2020, sadly. And that black square in front of me, yeah well. Menu and back sorted it out.

But the lighting…!!! OMG, such a big difference. I was flying real weather and real time above Bilbao, Spain, at around 12.00 am. Just, wow.

Today, I can’t load any flights. I just hoover above the clouds, loading… and no fun.
I’ll get back to it later.

“I’ll try again later 20204”? hahahah, I’m funny.

Oh, 14900KF, 4090, 32Gb, Quest3, Virtual Desktop.

P Crystal, had black rectangle too in VR. Like you, don’t know exactly how I removed it rather than right after the sim booted up, I switched to VR with no issue of which I never did in 2020 (switch to VR only after setting up flight at parking or runway). Strange indeed, managed to do a short C-172 VR flight. Sorry to be negative; but 2020 is a better experience in VR compared to 2024 in my opinion. But of course, a lot of tweaking is in order I’m sure. Driving a 4090. Maybe someone can post the correct procedures of getting into VR without the black reg.

Esc and Resume removes the black box for me.

Are any of you flying at the moment?
Here it’s just loading endlessly.
Disabled real weather, online, real time, but nada.
You?
