What has your VR experience been like in Microsoft 2024 so far?

I tried it in Virtual Desktop but it is not the same as using OXR toolkit. VD just seems to crop the image while OXR seems to squeeze it into the smaller FOV giving a significant boost to the clarity.

The latest non-beta su4 seems to work much better than what I bought last year and is now very playable. I’m not quite ready to uninstall 2020 yet though. Maybe when su5 comes out, who knows? Cheers.

In my case I have:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X (12-Core, 3.70 GHz)

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 (ASUS, 24GB VRAM)

RAM: 32GB DDR4

Motherboard: ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Hero (AM4 Socket)

VR Headset: Pico 4

Performance Status: * FPS: 19.1

Latency: 52.31 ms, Limiter: Heavily CPU-bound (RdrThread and MainThread)

I use Pico Connect (with SteamVR) instead of Virtual Desktop because it allows me to connect via USB-C cable (fastest data transfer and power supply at the same time)
Also I think I have +10% resolution using Pico Connect (very useful on G1000 tiny text)

Ya, I also see this with my Q3 and QPro using Link, even with a 9800x3d/rtx5090/64Gb 6000ram PC, lol! Bit better with 2024, but a long way from multi-thread optimized at this point in time imho.

4080/7950x3D Here using VD on H264+, 6e Access Point - getting 40-45 FPS natively in Quest 3 with 300/200 LOD/TLOD, all other settings at High or Ultra, smooth framerate, no jitters or stutters - verrrry nice in the last few months.

Do you see any difference in performance between VD and OXR? On VD I have settled into 90h and 85v but I can still see edges. Is this what you mean by crop? So OXR resizes the image into the original FOV? This may be an important distinction to nail down? I have not really tested OXR as much since VD is so easy to use.

The “sharpness” setting is useless in FS; it’s designed for other games.

Like OpenXR Toolkit back in the day, it tends to add a fine grid to FS (which is somewhat expected since the same author made both the toolkit and VD…).

However, in games with a lot of movement (like racing sims), it should be an advantage.

So, just use cropping to improve smoothness, and the codecs in VD, and forget about OpenXR Toolkit, which is no longer maintained. VD offers the same features and adds codecs not supported by OpenXR, and most importantly, it’s maintained and offers significant improvements over the toolkit. The downside is that it’s a paid program, but it’s well worth the price!

And for those for whom OpenXR Toolkit works perfectly, don’t change a thing! I personally did some tests before abandoning Open XR; if it works perfectly for you, there’s no need to change anything!

Hi, see my comment was pretty old. I got rid of the cropping because it seemed I was sensitive to the changes in FOV due to cropping. I am fine with the system now after the various upgrades of SUs and drivers. I gave up on the Beta.
