In reference to the pilot log book, what counts as a landing??
I’ve just done three circuit patterns, full stop on each one, all successfully on the runway i took off from and on the last one, I shut down the plane for a tea break, when I shut down the log book pops up and shows just one take-off, zero landings ???

From what I have seen, you have to interact with ATC in order for takeoffs and landings to count.

A landing log entry is usually triggered by a taxi to a valid ramp spot followed by a shutdown.

Wow, thats a bit off, I would log a landing as any successful landing on a runway, that means touch&go’s won’t count either, although technically not a landing i guess.
My chosen runway has no ATC or tower so no ground services.
I’ll do a taxi on the next circuit, all good practice.
From what I have seen the logs are buggy. They vary on what they record from plane to plane and also from user to user. I have seen a lot of posts on reddit where people complain about log recordings not working.
For the planes I use, switching off the engine and then hitting PGUP to turn off the cockpit display (GDU) near always brings up the end flight menu. I think it has failed about 2-3 times on me.
I also don’t think that you have to taxi to the parking spot to get a recorded landing either. A lot have stated that simply moving off the runway and announcing clear is enough.

The only way to be certain is to get the logbook screen to appear. For that, one of the most certain ways is a complete shutdown.

The sim log never shows the correct take off and landings.. and I always start cold and dark and end with a full shutdown…I guess we have to remove the chocks…un-tie the ropes…and reverse it…and Maybe the sim will recognize it. .
In the real world … anytime you leave the pavement is considered a take off and you log it that way. A landing is anytime you touch down…AND…DO NOT DAMAGE ANYTHING (Otherwise it’s considered a crash landing) and log it that way.
Example: Solo… 3 take off and landings. Cut the shirt tail off and go…
I…just like a lot of licensed pilots… did 3 touch and go’s …last one to a full stop. It’s in the log as 3 and 3.
And yes…if even 1 main touches the ground…it’s a landing… granted Not one you want to list with your grease jobs… and don’t count on your CFI to count that one of your solo 3 and 3’s.

It’s the sim’s functionality. Feel free to search for a Wishlist item that matches your requirements and participate/vote on it, or if none, raise your own.

I’ll do that.
You would think that with the complexity of something like FS2020 getting a log to work would be a 10 minute coding job, and yes I would agree that any time you leave the ground is a takeoff and any time you touchdown is a landing
Even in mature sims read Xplane and P3D people for the large part moved away from two things default ATC and default logbook. MSFS ATC is leaps and bounds ahead of what XP and P3D have,(admission that pains me since I’m a huge XP fan), but it is still nowhere close to pilot2ATC. And as far as logbook goes simtoolkit pro is a go to freeware solution for fleet management and flight logging and volanta is making inroads into this as well. No matter how good sim developers try to make those two components it seems that third party solutions are always one step ahead :).
Thanks,
I guess I have no options here as I run on X-Box platform.
Yeap with consoles it will be problematic for awhile until somebody comes up with a solution. You gain a lot of simplicity and cleanliness with XB at the expense of flexibility.

I also use Pilot2atc (with navigraph). Excellent program…IFR and VFR…And has a copilot function that is fantastic for those of you learning how to talk/function with ATC… including setting the nav frequencies.
Loads of options and full flight planning including sid’s and stars.
Highly recommended!
I’m still learning to successfully land the Longitude. My log credited me with a recent landing, even though I was not able to stop before running off the end of the runway and crashing.
I’ve seen “KABC (Vicinity)” at small grass strips, I assume I parked off the sim’s airport boundaries
My somewhat limited idea of a landing is when you manage to get the bird on the tarmac. A successful landing however is the one that you’re able to walk away from.
Both actions should be filed in the logboek.
In the real world that is..

This just hit me on my very first MSFS 2020 flight. Bummer. And there is no “Notes” field for log entries, another bummer.
I was so proud of myself for managing to configure my joystick and pedals and decided on the C152 for my first flight. I managed to take off, stay in the air with a reversed throttle, and land at my destination (with 1 go around from being too hot first attempt).
I brought up the log and saw 1 takeoff but 0 landings - now how does that look in my logbook - I didn’t bail out of a perfectly good plane.
No editing and no notes like I can in X-Plane, but the graphics and instrument readability is so great. (Had to buy a whole computer for this privilege.)
