What is the difference between normal mode and unrestricted mode on the ADS-B in traffic map?

What are the differences in how the G1000 reports traffic between normal mode and unrestricted mode, and why would you want to choose one over the other?

As a side note, why would one choose “above” or “below”? I believe those modes only report traffic above or below you, wouldn’t that leave you blind to the other side?
