I can just assume they need to do some kind of sorting of the sceneries/packages. Maybe they had some bugged code there (that caused excessive load times).
I guess this is why I asked. I have a thread going discussing excessive load times with the 1.2.7.0 patch.
Some suffer, some don’t.
Then I thought about the beta SU for 2020 a while back that had loading time issues that were made worse by specific models of NVMe and I’m trying to put all this together in my mind.
As always, I’m looking for clues and understanding.
I’ll try to give you what I know.
Package ordering shouldn’t be important, but it’s needed since addons can overlap on the same area. Package ordering states how addons, mainly sceneries/airports stack on top of each other at runtime. Also, package ordering now includes options to enable/disable addons from “My Library” or directly in the Content.xml file (note there’s a bug where we’re seeing duplicate entries in the Content.xml).
Further, in the Advanced settings section, you can also reorder addons. Addons lower on the list load over top the ones at the top of the list. This functionality also exists in 2020.
The only example I have from the 2020 days, was KCGX. You had to manually force the addon to the bottom of the list to load over top all other addons in order for it to show without water on the runway. Theory being there’s a World Update that needed to be put down before the airport loads on top.
There may be reasons Asobo added this for the base product to work properly. Like making sure scenery exclusions load first before an airport addon loads.
Edit - wanted to add that I’ve got my own convention of renaming addons with a prefix so they self order when loaded. Seems to have solved most of my issues.
0 for libraries from fsto
A for airports
S for sceneries/cities
Z for global enhancements like Bijans seasons
