What looks better, 2020 or 2024?

I’ve definitely had LOD and streaming issues in 2024, but I’ve also had areas that were much higher resolution than 2020 when they actually did load, my local area especially. Again probably situation specific.

Nahhh…you’re only speaking for yourself on that one.:upside_down_face:
Ground exploration never gets old with all these cool land, air, sea transportation mods.
I spend just as much time exploring on ground scenery in VR. There’s a visually stunning moment every time!

This post didn’t age well….

In fairness they look good.

It’s just some.

He’s running a Ryzen 5 3600 and a 1660ti card (6gb card).

Frankly his vid he posted is surprisingly good considering the hardware.

I have the same problem, and I have an RTX 4090 with a 7800x3d and 32GB RAM. So it’s not a hardware issue.

Please bear in mind, Xbox didn’t even have 2020 until a year later in 2021. Xbox had a more polished version upon release than PC folks did.

I always thought it was funny. MSFS was a mess when it released in 2020. But it got away with it. COVID was in full swing and something else happened.

CYBERPUNK 2077 released at the same time and got ALL the negative press for being released before being finished.

MSFS 2020 somehow got away with it.

2024 didn’t have that kind of cover, released on Xbox simultaneously, and we couldn’t even download or start the sim for a day or so after release. So… 2024 didn’t get away with it.

On Xbox, 2024’s visuals are very much in like with other same generation sequels. It looks better, more detailed, but nothing too groundbreaking because it is running on the same hardware with the same limitations.

The main visual upgrade I see on Xbox is the terrain doesn’t look as flat as 2020. Colors vary because they change so much for each season, whereas 2020 color is stagnant but generally imagery was taken on a sunny, summer day.

There is also a remarkable amount of life in 2024 missing from 2020 when on or near the ground.

On PC, the difference between vanilla 2020 and 2024 is more noticeable. Mainly because of better resolutions in textures and rendering. You can see more detail clearly, and that can get lost on Xbox.

Much the same can be said about same generation sequels of Forza Horizon titles on Xbox compared to PC. You see the improvements better on PC because it all renders in higher resolution. But you can always tell the sequel looks better on Xbox than the prior title.

2020 SU16 now looks just as bad as 2024. Especially in VR. They ripped out high res scenery textures. It’s awful.

Way to go. Can’t wait for their next “upgrades”

I hear the company that supplies the satellite data for MSFS now no longer supports high-res imagery?

I hadn’t really noticed anything amiss until I went looking — but it seems some areas have maintained good resolution while others are now very poor. Is there any word from Asobo about this, to succinctly say whether or not the graphical quality in both sims has been reduced?

■■■■ what are these car and boat mods? Are they freeware?

All payware…the boat developer who was indeed the most talented of the bunch has since vanished from the scene. It’s a really well done boat with tons of functions. The bike and Corvette on the other hand were not worth buying and that developer just pushes quick cash grab stuff with no updates nor improvements. I’ve done my own personal modding and tweaking to get the bike and Corvette to where they perform much better on the roads and bridges.

How interesting, I too have an RTX 4090 with a 7800X3D and 32GB RAM and don’t have any significant popping. I think this is highly dependent on where you are, what you’re flying, etc. and I can easily imagine flying a high-impact airliner (ini A300 for example) into JFK and seeing this, but so far, I haven’t…

Both sims look good in their own ways. Terrain and atmospherics are highly dependent on location and conditions so I would call that a wash.

Where 2024 really shines in in the low altitude where you can see the ground details and higher LOD tree models. I quite prefer the photogrammetry generally in 2024 also. And the lighting and shadows is much nicer.

But nothing wrong with preferring either one.
