What monitor should I buy? (27 or 32 inches? HDR? GeForce G-SYNC)

Hello!

I need help. I built a powerful computer.

Asus Prime Z690-P D4

Intel Core i7-12700K 3.6GHz

Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 CPU

Corsair 32 GB / 3600 Vengeance

Samsung 1TB 980 Pro M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD

EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 ULTRA

Seasonic 850W Focus GX 80

I would also need a new monitor. I am at a loss as to which monitor to choose. I would like to enjoy the simulator in high resolution, with ultra settings, with very smooth running. Do you recommend a 27 or 32 inch monitor? HDR? GeForce G-SYNC? GeForce G-SYNC gives smoothness, anyone use it?

Thank you in advance for your help.

With that rig for sure 1440p 32"

I have FreeSync premium, I’ve never noticed it do anything?

As for HDR I turn down digital vibrance.

Personally I love HDR for the extra brightness in strong sunlight, reflections, and nighttime lights. But using HDR can complicate your workflow for working with screenshots and screen recordings, because they may require conversion before posting. If one gets into it, beware there are significant differences available in HDR implementation, in terms of maximum and minimum brightnessess, and the ability to precisely dial in the right brightness for different parts of the screen. Do your research before you buy if you go this way.

As for G-Sync: yes yes yes! It lets your sim run at its natural frame rate without any tearing issues. Note that many monitors these days are “G-Sync Compatible” or something which is not 100% exactly the same as official branded G-Sync but usually is fine. I do recommend doing a little more research on this if you’re curious about the details, though it’s not as complex an area as HDR.

I have similar specs and originally purchased a 1440p 32". Then, saw the sim running at true 4k and there was no turning back for me. Just amazing even at 30-40 FPS.

Also, I tend to keep a monitor longer than other components so I was willing to accept lesser performance at 4k knowing that I will likely upgrade my graphics card before the monitor.

G-force is a must especially because the GPU takes care of the video sync. 4k is great if you want max quality. Regarding the monitor size, it depends on how far or close you’ll be viewing the monitor. Regarding HDR, I used it for a few months but it seemed like I was always fiddling with it. I’ll probably try it again after SU10.

Glad to hear I’m not the only one always fiddling to get HDR right. Agreed G-Sync is a must.
