Do I need a gaming monitor? I just got a new system from Alienware with a Nvidia 2080 super video card and waited till now to get a new monitor. Do I need 4 k or an ips monitor?
Thanks!

If it were me, Iād start with a 32" WQHD Asus TUF curvedā¦maybe 2.
If you are a gaming guy, and not just flight sims, something with even higher resolution like 4K might be a better fit. I tend to keep resolution lower to up FPS in sims.
Iād go 2k 27" 144 monitor. Currently thats the sweet spot until probs after the 30xx series.
Yepā¦ Iād agree with Noctover. A 27" monitor seems to be about right, with 144 mhz refresh. Asus seems to be a solid monitor. Iād opt for one that takes advantage of Nvidiaās V-Sync with that 2080 card. Iād bet youād have great results!
I have the ASUS 27" at 1080p, but am aching for the 32" - which to be worthwhile would have to be 1440p.
Why would you shy away from 32" at that resolution
With a 2080 a 32" monitor would ROCK! All depends on your budget and desktop real estate. Maybe mount on a VESA system and desk space actually gets freed up. Dual monitors are cool too, though at present my understanding is the Flight Sim doesnāt support a dual monitor configuration.
Yep - 2nd monitor is cool for the pop-out windows, having google maps open too, etcā¦but stretched MSFS looksā¦not so good.
I actually put my 2 vertical, for dog-fighting in combat sims (IL2) More data makes for better turning fights. Works ok for this sim, but strictly for the pop-outs.
Actually, you should get the one from HP thatās going to be released soon which sits right on your faceā¦
For what itās worth,ā¦ I am absolutely super happy with my 3440x1440 monitor. Donāt make it super duper ultra wide, but the aforesaid ratio is awesome for flightsim imho. Worth mentioning is , that I have two additional side monitors (1440x900, portrait) for maps, flightplans etc.
Wow. That sounds like a great setup. What monitors are you using?
I always reference Rtings for this kind of query because they do really in-depth reviews!
Iāll have to try the pop-out windows. I like using the VFR map.
Been using a samsung 49inch 4k monitor low response time for the past year cant complain,Tried going back to the 24inch 144 refresh rate gaming monitor last weekend and changed it straight back to the tv also if you cannot hit the desired fps in game ie 144 refresh rate or above then its pointless.
24 inch gaming monitor is used for vrfmap atm while the tv has the sim running.
Cannot go back after sampling the high rez of the tv + get more for your money in terms of size,However if your into fps gaming also then a gaming monitor high refresh rate is the way to go .
Bought this from Amazon, and love it.
AOC CU34G2X 34" Curved Frameless Immersive Gaming Monitor, UltraWide QHD 3440x1440, VA Panel, 1ms 144Hz Freesync, Height Adjustable, 3-Yr Zero Dead Pixels
I have the AW3420DW and love it. Thinking about buying another to mount on top to watch YouTube/Netflix while playing flight sim.
LG 48ā OLED TV with Gsync (CX 48 )
Night flying isā¦ amazing with OLED
Thatās the one Iām looking at too (already running 1440P, but not ultrawide). But I also have the HP Reverb G2 on preorder, so Iām not sure I should bother.
The main piece is an āLC Power m34-uwqhd-100-cā, that was comparatively inexpensive here in Germany a few months back, and actually is quite a good ābang for the buckā.
The side screens were a bit more tricky: They are DIY monitors made from laptop replacement displays, because I could not find 15.4" 1440x900 monitors on the market. And, of course, I wanted them to match the main screen, both in resolution and physival dimensions (>height).
Sounds like a great setup!
This is what I opted for. I got a great deal and had some dell credits. Canāt wait to get it.
