What exactly populates snow? I mean what conditions need to be met?

It’s simply not working very well at the moment, when Spain recently had their dumping of Snow I flew over there a few days after and there were just patches around Madrid with the Roads all covered in snow…looked terrible. Flew there the next day and it had all gone yet in Real Life it was still there and a few inches deep, it (yet again) points to the Major Issue of Live Weather just not working correctly, or very Sporadically if and when it does decide to work which is great when it does.
It bugs me as I personally hate new “Features” being released that don’t work properly, it should’ve been quite clear in Beta Testing that this wasn’t working (much like the original Lightning in Sunny Skies bug), seems to me it was rushed out to meet the actual Northern Hemisphere Winter period as when it does work it does look great, but when it doesn’t it looks very poor.
I just switch to custom weather preset and add snow buildup using the slider.
what i’ve seen and experienced it takes live weather couple of days to add snow for the simulator.
if its just abnormal snow cover for couple days in southern part of europe it will be summer in sim.
it took around 3-5 days to see snow cover in northern part of finland where i live but snow was just added to live weather which might delayed it even more back in december’s update
English midlands had a snowfall and it stayed four days.
During those days, there wasn’t snow on MSFS.
There wasn’t SN on the EGBB Metar, so what should I expect.
There may have been snow on MSFS when EGBB Metar said, but disappeared off MSFS when EGBB didn’t have SN. Metar doesn’t indicate lying snow on fields.
Innsbrook - Usually snow in winter, so it’s in the software.
I think the bigger question here, does weather report whether it is METAR or ATIS state there are snow on the ground. Because I think the sim has been fixed in the last update that even on Live weather they can add snow build up on the ground. But since Live weather requires actual live data. How does the sim interprets those data to make snow on the ground.
Does it use “snowing” conditions to apply ground snow build up? Or do these weather report data actually feeds the sim with the ground snow data?
“The update will bring “real-time snow and true-to-life ice coverage” to the game, said Jorg Neumann, head of the Flight Simulator franchise”
I see a pattern of behavior ever since the sim was released using the used car salesmen mentality.
When you assume everything and everyone is going to screw you over… You stopped getting surprised and just go with the flow. Hahaha… I don’t really pay attention to what they say anymore, or anyone for that matter. It is what it is.
They’ll have to strike a deal with
World Wide Daily Snow and Ice Cover Map (eldoradoweather.com)
Took a flight from Oslo to Moscow earlier on Live Mode. There’s snow at the airport, snow on the taxiway, and snow on the runway. It’s not ploughed too. And the landing conditions at Moscow was heavy snowing with limited visibility.
So I picked two airports in between those countries (Sweden, Arlanda and Finland Vantaa) related to your youtube video.
Live weather in the middle of a snow storm in Sweden at the moment.
And here is Helsinki Vantaa airport:
Worked in one country but not the other…
