I’m going to upgrade my odyssey+ for a reverb g2 and my rtx2070 for an rtx3080. I’m not going to do this at the same time, but I’m not sure what to upgrade first. I just started with msfs2020 coming from iracing and elite dangerous, so GPU power is very welcome, but the G2 supposedly should offer clearity immidiately. I’m looking for more clearity/sharpness. I don’t mind if I need to run the g2 in half resolution mode at first if it will be beter than the odyssey+
What would you upgrade first?
Side note: I have an i5 9600k and 4x 8gb ddr4 3000 c15 on a z390 pro4.
Well…I would definitely say go for the G2 first. I also have a very similar situation to yours (Dell Visor + rtx 2070). First of all, 2070 can obviously still run anything at very respectable framerates and that’s not likely to change very soon. However the g2 truly is a really awesome piece of vr hardware and that likely isn’t going to change soon either I mean, there isn’t going to be a much better headset for the same money soon. Also, the lack of supply is driving prices of rtx 3xxx cards very high right now but THAT is something that will definitely change and is worth waiting for. Especially since i’m sure there will be 3xxx cards with more Vram coming next year and long term speaking should be a good idea to wait. That’s just my opinion though. Hope you make the right choice for you, mate.
Well, depends on what is “soon” in your personal opinion. Soon for me, there will be the Decagear, which i preordered. Has the same Displays as the G2, full Face Tracking, Index-Like controllers, has the option to go wireless for 450$. Sure, Face Tracking and the Controllers wont do much for the Flight Sim, but the overall package is way more bang for the buck than the Reverb G2.
To the Topic: i’d go for the 3080 first. Right now im using a Rift S, R9 5900X, RTX 2080. As long as i fly small machines, up to the TBM, and outside of big cities there is no issue. but as soon as i hop into an airliner or go to Tokyo and alike, framerates starts to go downhill. The Odyssey + has greath visuals already, and i would rather have a bit less resolution than struggling as soon as you approach busy airports or cities.
If you dont mind current prices, i would go for the 3080. The Odyssey is a very good Headset, and in VR i rather have the enough GPU power than a high resolution headset i can not use, or that i have to downsample a lot.
If i turn up all the scaling on my 2080 Super and Samsung Odyssey, it look gorgeous, but since i dont like flying with re projection i have to go down in SS a lot.
