What were you thinking with the controls

I just spent 3 hours downloading this game, just to uninstall it after the 1st training mission…Not only was I DISGUSTED when I 1st opened the game, and saw the absolutely LUDICRIS DLC prices, but what the heck were you thinking when mapping the controls to this game? To force a PC player, playing with a M/Kb to take their hand off their mouse CONSTANTLY? Once in a while to hit a key or two, fine…But to map pitch/yaw to the NUM pad?? While controlling throttle with the mouse? Making it impossible to control the attitude of the plane at the same time as manipulating the throttle??? What the heck happened to WASD? Its like who ever mapped that, has never played a PC game in their life. Or at least never owned a mouse…I know this sounds fickle, and it is, when i could remap the keys…But it was just a horrible experience in my first 15 mins of this sim, and I totally lost interest. Who ever programmed the key bindings should never touch a PC again.

I don’t know what your expectation was… All simulation games are released with insanely complicated key bindings. In my opinion, Asobo recruited top experts in the field of user interface and user experience to design this - trust me. And don’t worry, third-party developers will be able to create study-level key bindings for you within 6-12 months. You may have to pay a modest fee for these bindings, but that is how it is in the simulation space. Don’t lose patience with the process.

Had not a single problem yet with the controls.

Ive lived on sims for the past 20 years, and thrive on complicated custom key bindings. My point was the factory bindings make ZERO sense…I mean num pad for pitch/yaw and rudder? Your mouse hand? While WASD, which are 99.999999% standard for these controls (would be 100% if not for the release of this game), bound to useless cockpit movements? (which should have been the num pad) Again, i know its a fickle complaint…but it was just SO bad it angered me a bit… lol. After already being frustrated by the INSANE DLC prices for rediculous things on a brand new game. DLCs should be down the road addons, not things like $30 details added to an airport that should have shipped with the game.

WASD is based on QWERTY. There are studies showing that DVORAK is superior in every way. Remember, top experts… I understand what you are going through. Try inhaling deeply and slowly like 6-10 times. I promise that you will feel better afterwards.

You seem intelligent.

Yeah I did that and it worked…lol. Thanks for the advice

Hang on, you’ve been simming it 20 years and are now shocked at ludicrous DLC prices in this one? What sim were you playing before, the Sims?

Also, you can change the key bindings to suit your own preferences easy enough, just like every other game/sim out there. So… why havn’t you done that?

Seems to me like the core issue here isn’t the keyboard mapping, but playing a flight sim with a keyboard and mouse vs using a controller of some sort.

After the frustration of trying to install the game about 10x with it continually freezing, and having to start over, to the DLC prices, to horrible controls, I just had had enough. I left feedback, to do just that, leave feedback…people saying “cry more”, or “what the sims”, isnt hurting me any…just making you look like A-holes  . Bad programming is bad programming. Maybe that contributes the the thousands of people the game wont even download for…Game release 101: Make your game download right. Expecially when your MICROSOFT… XD XD XD

Its a PC game released by Microsoft. The standard controller is a mouse and keyboard. The bindings just make NO SENSE…Im not sure why im getting attacked by fanboys for my simple feedback.

And if ANYONE thinks its ok that during the 1st training mission of a PC flight sim, i had to have my LEFT hand on the num pad, to try to control roll, while using my right to control the throttle with the mouse…You just arent using your brain…lmao. Is what it is. Im out. Thanks to the one guy that gave a decent response…

Stay on topic. And stop insulting Asobo and other members. Reported.

Pitch and yaw were always mapped to the numpad. I just loaded up FS4 on dosbox today and can verify this. WASD didn’t become a thing until the late 90s with specific first person shooters.

My dude, I’ve been quite critical of many things with this game so far. They’ve botched a lot of things, not the least being breaking a ton of ■■■■ with their latest patch and not planning on doing anything about it until the next update, leaving a ton of people with an unplayable / uninstallable expensive purchase. Their response has been pitifully lackluster at best. I’m not in any way defending Asobo. While they deserve much praise in many areas, the criticism they’re receiving is also quite well deserved.

BUT…

You make an incorrect assumption that mouse and keyboard is the “standard”. Perhaps with other games it is. I agree 100%. It isn’t for flight sims though, even though it’s a “PC game”. That always has been the case. While you can, you will NOT have a good experience. Ever.

Well its 2020, and WASD is a thing…lol. and im going to try again with a remap. I was just leaving feedback of how unintuitive it was. Mabey i could have worded it better so it didnt seem like was raging, but I was after the struggle to download it… XD

You can call me what you like pal, water off a ducks back to me. My point still stands; you can change all the key settings to suit yourself, and to reiterate, just like any other game or sim. To not make the effort to do that, especially from someone who’s “lived on sims for 20 years” and then rant about it on here suggests to me that the issue isn’t with the sim, but the person on the end of it.

OMG, either remap those keys or buy a joystick. BTW, It’s beyond me how you can sim with a keyboard for 20 years.:no_mouth:

I mean yes HOTAS is better…but mouse and keyboard is the STANDARD PC controller. Baseline. Period. Thats all i was saying

I dont want to argue about it. Many of you have made valid points. My left hand should never be drawn to my num pad in any game i play. That was MY only point
