I have a single 32" curved monitor but its just not enough for my desires. I tried VR and although stunning, the poor image left me wanting badly. I tried TrackIR but on the 32" screen it’s still not doing it for me.
A while back I was looking to go for a C1 @ 55" sort of size but now FS has added multi-monitor options I just don’t know.
Maybe a larger front with two 32" curved sides - this will allow me to keep my existing monitor??
I Don’t think i can fit three 50-55" screens in my tiny room, not easily anyway
A larger front with two smaller flat sides - I’ll have to sell my existing one?
Ideally, i’d want my main screen to show an image that is 1:1 with real life - the cockpit displays at full size or thereabouts, i was previously told 50" would do this?
I sit pretty close to the 32" - only about 24" back
Some other option?
Whats best, I’m some of you guys have tried all this
I was mulling over my options here, mostly due to perceived costs but just having looked, I can get these TV’s for £299ea - its a silly low price i think but are these specs ok for a triple setup in FS??
My current 4k monitor is 60Hz and that seems perfectly ok
But then i lose vertical image - a DQHD 49" is the same as two 27" monitors, a fair bit shorter than my existing 32" monitor. To me it would seem like looking through a letterbox.
Thats not much more than i have now, i also have TrackIR, but having tried VR, I now know i want peripheral vision, as in real life, the VR just does not do cockpit dials etc (yet)
Really depends on how much room (and how much money!) you’ve got.
Only have a small space where I can fit (am allowed?) my games monitor so 32" is my max. But working a single screen (I also have the sim on a laptop) is at times frustrating so I mounted my old 27" monitor above the main screen and use it for the peripherals.
I have TrackIR but suffer from reflections which mess it up.
I’d love three big screens around me, but would still want an indie to run the peripherals (LNM, VFR map, Navigraph etc) but no room, and I can’t justify not only the cost of the monitors but also the rig upgrades I’d need, so I make the best I can from what I’ve got. No doubt there are thousands like me who enjoy it even with some limitations.
Of course, fully agree. I have just enough room to fit a 3x50" setup in, will have to remodel the office but so what I’m retired and do ■■■■■■ all else really
The RTX has three displayport and one HDMI - if using three tv’s with HDMI, it will need DP to HDMI cables yes?
Is it better or any different to use the 3 DP connections on the RTX or can we use 1 HDMI and 2 DP connections - only ask because the HP G2 uses one DP socket
I have 3 Dell 32" 1440s curved on a 3070. 2 are on DP and one on HDMI. My third displayport is used for my addon Thunderbolt card, I run my touch monitor off that.
It works very well. Of course, I don’t have everything cranked up to Ultra. Not necessary.
My consideration going three instead of one was I was able to buy them all for cheaper than a single wide and if any fail it’s also cheaper to replace just one. If cost isn’t an issue, single wides are pretty sweet
I have three monitors, one 32-1440 and two 27-1080 organized like @FlyingGunny, but just use the 32 for a front view. I use the side monitors for Navigraph, Little Navmap, ATC comms, putting different instruments, Discord and other stuff.
Someday I plan to replace my 32-1440 with at least a 42-4K. I’m okay not having the wrap around view and prefer the other windows. I use those a lot. If I ever went with a wrap around, I would certainly still need my other two monitors for all the other stuff.
Right now I’m flying, have Navigraph on my right screen and this browser and other stuff on my left monitor.
unfortunately VR in it’s current state is not able to produce the level of quality 2D can. I play VR from time to time but i get much more of a kick in DCS or a racing game or a proper VR game. I digress though
VR doesn’t get to the “wow” levels of quality until you opt for a Pimax or an Varjo
I have spent way too many hours messing with the G2 in the last week, I finally found out how to achieve the cockpit clarity i want and that was by turning off all antialiasing - the result is stunning cockpit clarity. The downside is that the outside view is now ruined by jaggies as expected.
Its not computer power as such, thats mostly a frame-rate thing, its a side effect of antialiasing, once they sort that out things will really start to pop in the low-mid range world of VR.
I know ‘pancake’ is never going to be 3D, but from what i have seen and read to date, a wrap-around triple monitor setup is the very next best thing - you get peripheral vision which i really want, no need to wear a headset, a bigger, sharper image, no sweet-spot, no fresnel glare (HP G2) and so on.
I’m keeping the VR for fun, I also have TrackIR to throw in if needed.
Cost is minimal - I just bought three 50" LCD screens for beer money over what the VR headset cost! The frame-rates will be about the same as in VR - lower than a single 4K monitor but not terribly so. This is all just fun on the simulator trip.
