What's up with Live Weather

I know there have been reports of Live Weather being hit or miss lately but it seems like, for me, Live weather shows in the world map when I select a route but whenever I load the flight, 9 times out of 10 it’s blue skies, even when the weather shown in the map is overcast or cloudy.

I’ve made sure I have live weather turned on but maybe there is something else I’m doing wrong as it just never seems to load anymore.

With apologies to Douglas Adams, maybe you’re the “yin” to Rob McKenna’s “yang”?

I don’t think you are doing anything wrong.

Real weather is very sporadic.

I can fly locally in the morning with good weather depiction and then in the afternoon, wind, but no clouds.

This has been going on (for me) for about 2-3 months.

This is exactly what I am dealing with. It’s so frustrating. When LW works, it adds so much to the realism of this sim. I feel like I must be doing something wrong and need to tweak a setting or something else but for the life of me, I can’t understand why this isn’t working.

I was having trouble with live weather and figured out the simulator had turned off it’s connection to the internet. It’s in one of the option data settings to turn on a connection with the internet. Lave weather came back after I turned it back on.

Not what’s happening with me, It’s been on all along.

I’ve checked this for each flight where LW isn’t working, it’s always been on. I recycle the setting to see if that helps, it doesn’t. I figure since I’m getting accurate METARS / ATIS data that the sim has a proper internet connection.

It does appear to be an issue with cloud injection / generation. Like you, the weather forecasts and winds are accurate. Nothing wrong with connectivity as I can have clouds in the morning and no clouds in the afternoon - and live traffic all the time.

Yes, this happens - there is a connection issue and then data services get turned off and one has to turn them back on manually - I think a small status message would be useful.

What I think is happening is that the MS servers are overloaded (there’s little doubt of that) and from time to time, the sim decides that the internet connection has failed (it hasn’t, just the MS server being slow to respond).

For reasons that are not clear, the sim then switches off data connectivity. This disables live weather and much more until you re-enable it manually.

Hi, my connection remains fine, but I still do not get clouds. I do think it is server related though!

Hello, roger - I assume you’ve tried at different locations worldwide and not just in one larger area - when you look at the weather map overlays in the world menu does that work? (satellite and precipitation overlay?)

No problems where I am (West Europe). Which server are you on, maybe someone else can corroborate?

Also worth checking is this in the dev mode menu.

Hi, tried all server locations - around 60% of the time no clouds.

World map and selected location show weather but no real weather clouds in sim.

Wind / turbulence is okay.

Bit of a pain…

Will check but I do get clouds occasionally…

That seems strange … if it helps the Isle of Man (EGNS) has great clouds right now but wrap up warm, it’s windy as hell.

I agree, other than a server issue, I have no idea why this occurs for some….

Have you checked your data settings in the MSFS options menu?

In what respect?

I have no limits set…
