When are we going to see the aurora in the sim?

I remember this being discussed in one of the dev Q&A’s a while back and I think I remember them saying the aurora is being worked on. Has there been any further developments or news?

I’m asking now because my older brother is a 787 captain and sent me these incredible photos he took last night from his office chair whilst flying back to Heathrow from LA. He’s quite keen to always point out to me cool things you can see and do in real life flying that you can’t do in the sim. Obviously I’m quite keen to prove him wrong.

Are those real or sim photos?

Look like sim to be honest!?

I see a hand in one photo now! The sim is so good it’s hard to tell.

I’d love to have auroras too.

They’re real photos taken from a real 787 cockpit flying just North of Hudson’s Bay. The sim doesn’t have the aurora yet.

I was disappointed there were no auroras when I did a northern crossing. They certainly be an amazing addition to the sim as part of the weather system.

I don’t know what the timeline is for the aurora in the sim but your brother’s photos are fantastic!

Oh wow that is so beautyful looking! So this is Aurora from an airplane perspective. Yes the Flight Sim should absolutely add Aurora as atmospheric effect. (And Elmsfire).
