When changing cruise alt in climb, speed reverts to 220ish

Brief description of the issue:

On climb out i selected cruise 360 in the CDU, which lead to the aircraft pitch nose up and climb to capture 218kt for some reason unkown to me.

Crz alt was set to FL320 during fmc setup, but switched to FL340 during climb using mcp and using center push button on alt sel knob. FMC CRZ alt switched to FL340 and plane respected climb to 340, but when using FMC managed speed, the bug would drop from mach (about .83 and 290kias) to around 220kias. I had know indication of any speed restriction in the fmc to match this drop. Tried resetting cruise mach in FMC and resetting CRZ alt in FMC as well as selecting a new leg to DCT TO to see if a hidden speed restriction could be reset, but just ended up having to set a mach speed in speed window and use that for flight.
