When in VR, if turn off, can't come back to VR (GOTY version)

If I am using VR and switch to desktop, I can’t go back to VR. Error message “check Open XR…”

The only way is shutting down FS and starting again.

Please use the latest OpenXR Preview runtime for Windows Mixed Reality.

Download the OpenXR Developer Tools for Windows Mixed Reality from the Microsoft store, then in Developer Settings, enable Use latest preview OpenXR runtime.

either bad driver install gone bad, or the same OpenVR, or uninstall Mixed Reality Portal software and reinstall your VR by reconnecting
