When is the next hotfix?

Don’t bet your paycheck on it.

This one is for sure man:+1:t2::rofl:

After testing SU5, the two subsequent hotfixes and talking to some 3rd party devs, my current feedback regarding this matter is that approximately two more dozens of hotfixes might be needed to undo the damage they did to MSFS with this update. And by “damage” I’m not referring to scenery/graphics degradation at all.

I can honestly agree with this assessment, and I would not say its exaggerated, snarky, or funny at all.

Hopefully todays communication from the MSFS team has some answers leading to good action. There is just way too much talk and screenshots so far.

Not exaggerated? Can you post (or link to) a list of issues new from SU5 that would require 22 more hotfixes to get under control?

I’m with you man. All I really care about is the aviation side. I want it to be a true sim. Everything is there they just need to fix it so that it works correctly. Little things that are so stupid, like now when setting the heading indicator it will rotate it all the way till north is at the top. That’s just really irritating. Trim is messed up. ATC is useless. Pushbacks tip over the float plane. I just don’t feel like playing a game like that.

Have not had a single CTD or other crash/freeze, at all. The sim runs fine for me, on ultra.

So that’s the question…why does it run fine for some and not for others? My assumption is configuration.

We’re all using the same bits, so the variable is configuration and specific in game usage.

For some what’s worse than for others. This is easily the least stable release since launch. No question in my mind about that.

I can go a couple of days with zero issues. Works exactly as it should. Then suddenly, without any changes to anything on my end, it’s a crash fest where I can’t complate a flight without a crash somewhere along the way. Sometimes it’s when I hit the FLy button. Sometimes it’s during initial taxi. Could be in flight. Could be on approach. Or it may work as expected. It’s a roll of the dice, really.

All I can say is that when I’m having a bad crash day, I can expect a LOT of them.

I could link to issues, but this thread will get closed because the links would be such a huge post which would also primarily promote other threads and that is against the rules.

The fact that the 2 hotfixes have introduced more bugs is evidence enough. If one denies this then the conversation is useless/unproductive/dishonest.

The better question is why did SU5 need a hotfix at all? And another great question is why does this topic exist?

Nope. That was a week after SU5 came out.

I’ve been lucky in that case as I’ve not had a single flight related crash yet.

I’ve had one crash during startup, never repeated. And I had one crash while sitting on the ramp because I’ve found with my new motherboard it doesn’t seem to wake the flight controls/panels that are all attached to a single 16 port USB hub when I bring the computer out of sleep mode, however a restart always works. I have individual switches for each port so what I normally do is just power cycle the offending device, and it brings them back. This time I tried the quick route so pulled the USB port to hub. That crashed the sim!

Are they doing a dev talk on twitch today then?

Why does this topic exist? I really don’t know. You speak like this sim were completely broken and nobody were able to play and enjoy it

For most people, it’s playable. Even with a bunch of stuff not working right, many of the new Xbox players who’ve never seen a sim before wouldn’t know the difference if something is working right or not. They’re busy barnstorming over busy airports, flying down the streets of New York City, or trying to find their house and familiar places. The fact the aircraft systems work as intended or not has no bearing on what they’re doing.

But there are a bunch of users (both PC and Xbox) who haven’t been able to play it at all since July 27. SU and the Xbox version launches bricked their installs and they can’t fly at all. Some can’t install the update. Some will CTD when starting a flight - any flight. And these problems exist on both platforms.

For people who play on Vatsim and other live ATC networks, the weather issues and pressure altitude issues that were supposed to be fixed by the hot fixes (but weren’t) are a major issue there as well.

There are a lot of other bugs that are more specific, either to particular aircraft or systems, that prevent others from using the plane they normally fly in the way they normally fly it, and it wrecks their enjoyment of the sim completely.

So it may be working fine for you and the way you play it, but that doesn’t mean it’s not broken for others.

To undo damage cause in last update requires 22 more updates? Doesn’t that go against the laws of energy conservation?

This is 100% spot on.

It’s great that Xbox brings longevity for the “10 year project”. But unfortunate that at the same time the roots in aviation simulation accuracy is sacrificed in the altar of never ending graphics tuning. Graphics were least of the problems in the release and have gotten way too much attention.

In fairness, Microsobo set those expectations with unrealistic screen shots and videos on dev builds that showed stuff that wasn’t even in the sim. It’s one thing to deliver a product that doesn’t match what’s seen in promo material, but then they started slowly chipping away at the graphics, rolling back LOD, draw distances, etc all while telling us they weren’t doing that at all. Then when pressed with irrefutable evidence that indeed they had, they backtracked saying downgrades were “unintentional” and due to bugs. The fact people are screaming at them about graphics so much is self-inflicted.

That said, I’m in agreement. There are much more urgent things that need attention in the sim than the graphics, which even in their current downgraded state, are better than anything else flight sim related on the market. This is a flight simulator, not a scenery simulator.

I’ve said this many times as you know. Unfortunately, the sight-seers hold sway over Microsobo and the ‘flight sim’ element comes a distant second and, to a great extent, always has.

The sight-seers are a loud voice, but it goes beyond that for the reasons I explained in my last post.

They gave us something, then slowly started chipping away at it, taking it away little bit by little bit here and there to get it the PC graphics downgraded to where they’d match the lowered graphics on Xbox. It’s was like a case of the slowly boiling frog. Take it away little by little in minute chunks so (hopefully) no one notices the small downgrades. Only people have screenshots and videos…

And I don’t know about you, but when I pay for something and then I progressively have that taken away from me, I’m going to loudly complain about it, even though that may not be the most pressing issue. I’m not one to let someone ■■■■ on my head and then try to convince me it’s just rain.
