I see this hase been asked before, but no folowup in 2023 ?
Anybody knows anything?
They spoke about it in the last Q&A. No real info other than it isnāt quite ready. Theyāre still having issues with it, as many folks are reporting.
More succinctly, they said until the amount of DX12 crashes or reports are lower than DX11. As DX11 overall has less reporting issues than DX12 and is considered more stable and also the default option.
In the last Q&A they said DX12 will become the default DX as soon as the number of crashes reported using DX12 is significantly lower than those for DX11. As if CTD is the most important thing⦠they rather finally fix the DX12 related bugs that totally ruin the experiemce even if you do not have CTDs, e.g. the ground tile bug. Besides this, I had only like two or three CTDs since release, at least for me, this is by far NOT the most important thing to depend DX11 or DX12 decision onā¦
For now DX12 have a pretty big issue, itās the amount of VRAM it use. Setting it to default on a machine like mine with only 8GB VRAM (RTX3070) will kill the Sim. Until they optimize (if itās doable!) DX11 is the way to go for a lot of machine. According Steam Survey from February 2023, less than 18% of users have more than 8GB. So 82% have 8GB or lessā¦
Absolutely this^
I use NVIDIA GeForce Experience to optimize my initial settings after I update their drivers (I tune them later from inside the sim to my taste) and now with current drivers (and one version before) this optimization sets DX12 by default for me.
As Martial/Sebastian stated before, DX11 is the current standard as according to their crash reports has the best stability. They also directly said that until DX12 crashes became lower than DX11 it would stay in beta.
biggest tip I can give; get rid of nvidia experience entirely, or at least stop it from āoptimizingā (read; messing up) your settings for you.
Well unless that crowd at Asobo make MSFS DX12 compliant / compatible, the crashes arenāt going to magically diminish. That premise is silly.
Iād like to do more ātestingā with DX12, but I really dislike what it does to the ground tiles.
I should just get over it, it isnāt a racing sim and I spend most of the time in the air, but what it does to the visuals is pretty gross.
I think thatās mostly VRAM related. DX12 is currently very VRAM hungry. If you have a GPU with 16 or 24GB of VRAM, you should generally be fine, if you have 10GB or less, youāll likely see issues.
Iāve got 24. The problem was very bad when I tested it recently.
hmz, try deleting/resetting your rolling cache.
Iām not using a rolling cache.
Even weirder, on my older PC (laptop) Iāve got a 1060 w/6GB and it doesnāt have the whacky tiles anywhere nearly as badly as my RX 7900 XTX.
Every system is different. I use a low end GTX970 and in my case Experience helps a lot, believe me or not (I use it to make some videos as well and I use filters also). I do not notice any improvement removing experience. After every sim or drivers update I āoptimizeā with Experience first, then I start the sim, and press on ādefaultā button for graphic options. After this I adjust some sliders individually. Doing this way, quite often (not always) I receive more FPS (not much, but even 7-8 FPS is a precious gift in my case) than when I do it skipping āexperienceā.
VRAM eating is less of an issue on 1080p
