" ATC keeps telling the generics to go around over and over" ATC can do that to pilots even when you are the only person flying into the airport, with zero aircraft on the ground. So fly around has to be ignored most of the time now!

Oh I definitely would. “But I like my altitude, thank you.” “Sorry, I can’t go around. My wife says dinner time is an emergency at my house.” While it’d be wildly entertaining for a short while, I don’t think I’d last long and I might be the only one being entertained
As to the original post, eventually the generic landed anyway and the ATC told him he didn’t have permission to land 
As a controller myself, I can guarantee you it wouldn’t lol.
