Found several places where lightning was happening IRL, tried for several hours flying around those places, not a single lightning…
Until they do, at least we can still pretend they are dangerous, and avoid them.
Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
No, but its fair to say I have only seen lightning once or twice this year, so this was rare enough to report
Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
Spawned as KASE to shoot some footage, and found lightning, but not much thunder. You can either hear very slight rolling thunder, or its gusting wind.
If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:
Found a big storm in the Pacific and there was lightning there…
Managed to find some around Girona(LEGE) right now
Video: Imgur: The magic of the Internet
Edit: After that video wasn’t able to get anymore lightning flying around that place… ![]()
Do you have any knowledge that they are working on this, other than “bug logged”?
Was flying around KMSP yesterday(live weather) and had lighting(with no clouds) for the first time I can remember.
Loads of lightning just south of Miami right now . Been a long time since I’ve seen this much . Looks glorious
Were you on live weather?
Big topic over at Avsim about this as well. Basically, zero cloud to ground or cloud to cloud lightning anywhere when using live weather. Highly unrealistic. Honestly, P3D with Activesky was more realistic than what we currently have with MSFS regarding lightning.
https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/634286-no-more-live-weather-thunderstorms/
Well, look at this… I WAS WRONG, sort of.
Yes, lightning and thunder are back in LIVE WEATHER… was just at KATL and a thunderstorm was over the airport, low and behold… lightning!! (sorry, you’ll hear me yelling at my puppy who decided to pee while I was recording).
That said, I recall Seb/Jorg (one of them) mention last year when we were telling them we don’t see lightning anymore, he said “summer months have more lightning” – something like that. Although, yes, this is true, it’s not necessarily true all the time.
I hope MSFS will read this and see that lightning needs to be better implemented, especially in spring and fall – I know in Texas, we get lightning storms all YEAR round.
Affirmative
I am seeing it today, even at KDAL!!! This is fantastic!!!
FINALLY, storms are back!
I wouldn’t say the storms are back. The cloud rendition of thunderstorms is atrocious. Yes I have also seen the lightning, but the clouds look terrible. No vertical definition, and when you fly near a “thunderstorm “ it turns into a broken mess of puff clouds that aren’t much higher than 15,000 feet at the most. It needs a lot of work to look realistic again.
Fair; how about I meant “lightning and thunder” are back in live weather now.
I’ve noticed that there has been an increase in thunderstorm activity, but it seems a couple things are happening…
1 - the cloud formation is poor in some of the storms, I’ve seen lightning shoot out from a very small, puffy cloud that no way should produce a lightning strike
2 - there seems to be a ‘zone’ around the storm, and once you fly out of it, the storm stops triggering. I noticed this when I flew over where a storm was happening in Spain, and as soon as you were roughly 5 miles away the lightning stopped. Checked on lightning map and it was still happening.
However, at least it appears to be being worked on, although I will say that not every storm is being reproduced in game.
Yes they definitely are…which is great. They just need to fix it so it looks realistic.
I haven’t seen thunder in lightening in over a year at least.
Is there a setting somewhere where I need to look?
If you are on live weather, you just need to be where lightning is predicted, then hope for the best.
I’ve seen it twice all year, I think, but I haven’t been storm chasing.
Hi,
Normally I fly mostly in the Alps in Central Europe. There I didn’t encounter any lightning, even in thunderstorms.
However yesterday flew from Oklahoma to North Texas and there was lots of lightning despite only a few, light clouds . Go figure.
