Where do you put your keybord

That’s what I was thinking too. Have the big keyboard to the side and the “little guy” on the yoke’str.

I’ve had an original X52 for 16 years now. It’s worn and been wanting a yoke anyway for smoother control. Managed to get a honeycomb a few weeks ago when Microsoft had a few in stock for a very short time (gone within 10-12 hours). I can’t go back lol. I still use the X52 throttle for now until I can get the honeycomb one.

I put mine on top of the yoke on the flat part. Overhangs just a little on each side. Maybe 2 inches. It’s a TKL though. I do have a full-size as well but haven’t plugged it in for about 8 months except to program my X52 profiler software with some of the numpad keys when the sim dropped in august.

Thanks for the reply, Flyinion!

I think the Honeycombs’ become available again in December and I will get one then. I thought about a Brunner or a Yoko, but man, those prices are a lot to swallow.

What did you get to control the rudder, if I may ask?

Edit: Red Bird too.

Uncertain if you ask me.
I did however, buy the Thrustmaster pendular pedals, which are very pricy indeed. Got them less than normal going price though.
This is the single best buy for simming I have made better than the Honeycombe. So easy to use and precise. Joy to taxi, take off and land. You are in control, I feel.Takes a bit of getting used to.

Unfortunately I don’t have anything right now. So I “think” I’m using “autorudder” but it’s unclear if that actually works in this sim. I might be mapping it to the big rotary though to at least fix ground taxi in the small aircraft. I want to get rudder pedals, but like the yokes & sticks everything is sold out. I heard Honeycomb is supposed to be coming out with pedals next after the throttle so I’m kinda trying to hold out for that. The Thrustmaster TPM ones look really nice though, but that price! I’d probably end up with the Logitech/Saitek ones if nothing else works out.

Thanks for the two replies, guys.

Those Thrustmasters do look really nice.

I have purposely been forcing myself to not get anything, yet. I want to make sure I stick with flight simming. I tried MSFS back in the 90’s and walked away. It wasn’t ready nor where the computers fast enough. This sim is different. But, like all new shiny toys the glare fads as time goes on. I want it to remain bright for a while before I drop more money on something that I may just walk away from. So far, so good for me!

Thanks, Dudes!

Almost every keyboard command that I’m likely to use I’ve mapped to my Tartarus V2 controller. I’ve previously used a Nostromo N52 and a Razer OrbWeaver. I can’t figure out why I seem to be the only person using this type of controller.

My take on this, as a principle, is that, what you have to interact with, is right there in front of you, the cockpit in the virtual plane you are flying and that, in principle, you(me) should use the switches, turn the dials in the virtual cockpit using the mouse to the greatest extend possible.
The opposite is ofcause to build a real cockpit with all the switches and dials needed to controll the plane.
However this only makes sense if you are flying one type of planes or even one particular plane.
This means that I try to minimize the number of switches/dials that I use and use the virtual ones. I learn how the plane is laid out this way.
For instance I try… not… to use the switches on my honeycomb yoke, but use the ones in the virtual cockpit.
Have the logitech radio panel because the radio dials are just too fiddly, and have ordered the multi panel but are questioning if I really need this.

This again means that the developer needs to make sure that is easy to interact with switches and dials, which it is fair to say is NOT the case now.

I am now the owner of (Rii8??) mini keybord. Fits perfectly…really perfectly…on my Honeycomb yoke, and have tried one small flight from Hobart to Launceston Tasmania.
Perfect for ATC interaction, windowed/full screen mode. I dont have that many things mapped to the keybord but carnt imagine it would be a problem.
Added benefit so far are the large up/down/left/right arrows right in front of you. Much more flexible seating/viewing.
Used sticky foam tape as no velcro at hand, but will change for velcro to change batteries.
Fly in dark room and led backlit only on for a few seconds, turns on if you press again. Have an IKEA flexible light illuminating the keybord. Works well.
My old keybord also plugged in for more lengthy typing.

All in all VERY happy the way this turned out.!

Looks good too.

Will update with further benefits/problems.

That looks good Coder! Once I get a yoke I can see it being nice not having to reach away from the control surface of the yoke. It would be a very cheap approach to not having to use a Streamdeck.

There are other variants to this keyboard that have Lithium batteries, so once a week you plug the wire into it (without detaching it), after your last flight of the day and you are set the next morning.

Thanks for sharing!

Yeah…think that I got a Chinese copy, with 2 aaa batteries. Works well though. Will follow battery life and if issue will find original Rii8 thing.
Led’s turn off quickly and cannot find way to make them stay on so far.

I think that all of the mini keyboards turn the back-lighting off to save battery life. I think they are mostly designed for TV watchers needing a couch keyboard. Hence, the LEDs’ turn off quite quickly.

I’m glad it is working out for you!

Interesting, please post how this works out for you.

Just saw this on an online shopping site (think big river). Can’t tell yet but if the scroll wheel is programmable it could make a great trim wheel.

That looks nifty. Would love to hear if scroll wheel works for trimming.

Flown 2-3 hours with the mini keybord on the Honeycomb and it works out beautifully. Will slowly add more keybindings…because it is just there. Can use keybord without letting go of the yoke

Nice idea too, ASKemp1970.

What are you using to control the throttle? The spinning knob on the left?

Oh, all fancy with the SpaceMouse and all! :small_airplane: :smiley_cat:

I’ve got a Warthog set down at the side, out of view, and also using my modified Cougar as well at the moment. Waiting on a Bravo throttle.
The Spacemouse is great as a camera controller.
