Where do you put your keybord

Well I have a Honeycomb yoke right in the middle of my desk where my keybord would normally go.
I do have two side consoles but it would be awkward to turn 90 degrees to hit a key.
My solution is to put on in my lap. It is ok for keypresses and such.
My question is…are there another better way to have/fix/mount/hold the keybord. It seems I am going to spend an awfull long time with it as it is and if someone have a good idea then…

I have an empty HD box on each side of my yoke, and bridge my keyboard on top. Works real nice. :small_airplane: :smiley_cat:

My keyboard sits atop my yoke. Easy for simple keystrokes, but if I need to type or do something else, it sits in my lap like yours does.

On top of my yoke too. My keyboard comes with a removable wrist test that works really well as a support for the keyboard on top of the yoke

I have a tablet next to my joystick/throttle with the ‘touch portal’ software where i have all by buttons i need (basically hotkeys)

Same spot as everyone else it seems, on top of my flight yoke!
I have a Saitek control yoke, that has 3 velcro strips on it, that I used to use to secure my laptop when I demonstrated FSX at our SAR displays.

Looks like you have room to install a keyboard tray underneath the yoke. Slide it out when you need to press a key, push it in and fly.

I made a holder/support for the table beside the yoke. Supports the keyboard at a 45 degree angle from horizontal. Having it in the same spot all the time means I can find the keys quicker. Also confident that I pushed them once, not held them down. Makes a big difference for throttle and trim.

While I know that I want to use a Yoke and Throttle, because it will feel better to fly with a yoke, I am torn on if I want to go that route.

My current setup below affords me the ability of flying with the keyboard in a comfortable and useable fashon. I have given some thought of mounting a yoke “below” the desk and raising the height of the desk so that the yoke is right above my legs so that I could continue to have the keyboard on the desktop. Decisions, decisions…

If you can share why you decided to go the yoke route versus the joystick route in relation to losing the keyboard ease-ability I would like to hear them.

If I decide to continue using a joystick I plan on upgrading my current one. The X-52 is a little bit wonky.

My bowl of popcorn is on the left.

For me, the yoke gives me a lot nicer fine control. For games like Elite Dangerous, I like the stick/HOTAS combo but, for flight sims, the yoke is a lot more controllable for me. Maybe because the stick has a much smaller physical range of motion to map to the sim? Or maybe I’m just clumsy? :small_airplane: :smiley_cat:

I totally agree with you, BuffyFoster.

I am sure the yoke allows you the fine control that we went to use to feather in while we land. It is harder to do with a joystick. This is why I want to use a yoke.

Thoughts: Looking at my small keyboard above in my picture, is there a way to mount that size of keyboard on a yoke? That keyboard above is 11" wide. Or “a” keyboard that will fit between the two arms of the yoke? A smaller iPad/Android that talks with the PC mounted to the yoke?

What is the “usable” distance between the two yoke arms with your hands on it at the same time?

Hey Buffyfoster
That might actually be a very nice idea, with a mini keybord on the yoke. Will look into this…
Just found this

Only 15 cm long…5 inches. Bought it only 23$.
Will report back when it arrives.

Ick for typing on, though. I have a Logitech G19 that sits over my yoke bridged on two empty HD boxes. That way I can have keys available, but also nice and full-size for typing. Plus the G19 has that nice little LCD screen that Afterburner can display CPU and GPU stats. :small_airplane: :smiley_cat:

IDK, I bridge my full-sized keyboard over top of my yoke using two empty HD boxes. :small_airplane: :smiley_cat:

You are right…for writing your latest blockbuster novel this wont do, but my sim PC is just that, for Msfs only.
Have a laptop for other business.
Let’s see how it goes.

By the way what is a HD box?

Hard disk box; the box that they come in, at least ones for NAS.

Well, I don’t type novels, but I have my Steam games on here and use Steam chat and stuff. :small_airplane: :smiley_cat:

Let us know how it works out for you. A piece of velcro and you are done.

You can’t type a novel on it. Maybe send a text. But using it for the keyboard shortcuts, which you can set to your liking, it may work great!

Think I can have both my old for typing and this for keypresses at the same time.
