After fyling the Cessna 152 and 172 for a while, I decided to try the Diamond DA62. I really like it but had an issue. I was approaching Gatwick airport, had the correct ILS frequency dialed in and was at about 1400 AGL. Switching the CDI from GPS to LOC 1, the plane picked up the ILS and turned to nicely lineup with the runway. However, I never got a Glidescope indication (no little G in the CDI or anything showing a gldescope.) I had to descend manually.
What went wrong? Surely the approach to Rwy 8R at this major airport ahas a glidescope…?
Did you enable approach mode (APR)? Otherwise it only follows lateral guidance on NAV mode.
Ironically, these screenshots are taken from someone else’s thread who’s having problems capturing Glide Slope.
in APR mode, you should see a Vertical Guidance deviation scale appear next to the altitude tape. Green diamond is the GS. It will drop down as you approach the FAF.
GS should also appear in white on the scoreboard display atop the PFD. White is Armed, Green is active, Amber blinking means in transition.
Thanks for the replies but that (screenshot) is exactly what I am talking about. I’ve done ILS approaches before, several times. There was no green G and no indication atop the PFD, as I was expecting. I will repeat the flight today to rule out human error.
What was the approach?
Trying again, after rebooting the sim, it worked. Must have been a glitch.
