Where is the MSFS 2024 community Folder?

Hello @Dawu777,

You’re not forced to install MSFS2024 on the C: drive. During install (either from Steam or Xbox/Windows Store), you can choose a custom installation drive and path.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

This is only for Steam Data (11GB). Official packages and community is in appdata/roaming without asking

This does not apply to the community folder and hence the many questions and unhappy comments that we have to edit cfg files. We have installed on a custom installation drive (in my case F:), but the community folder remains in appdata on C.

You can move it from the “my library” screen.

I don’t understand why the community folder would be on my C drive, as I installed it on a dedicated F drive. Would it be in a different location if I installed it in another drive?

In the XBox app, click the three-dot context menu, select “Manage Installation” and select any drive / folder you want. I’m installed in E:\FS2024

Now if only I could get into the stupid sim …

Is it a problem if Community folder is on C: and FS 2024 is on F: along with FS2020?

Yes, because its a step back. In MSFS 2020 you could choose a custom install location and it would also place the community folder there. Now you need extra steps to fix this. For many people the C drive is for OS and essential apps only, while having a dedicated large drive for Games / Flight Sim only.

I dont have a xbox and neither xbox app. I will first look in game settings as Jayes posted before I install apps I dont need

I certainly defer to your knowledge.

But for MS Store, the address you list for the Community folder is a Symbolic link for us that installed FS2024 to another drive\folder.

In my case the physical address is:
K:\WpSystem\S-1-5-21-2997017442-1106904157-1831008082-1001\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community

As to this Packages folder, all three are empty.

We were told that everything would go to the cloud for FS2024.

So, maybe that is why I am confused and wrong.

It’s the XBox App on your PC. It’s Microsoft Games’ default app to manage games installed from the MS Store.

How do we move it from C Drive? I installed the game on my D drive, I don’t want a community folder on my C drive.

You’re confused. Assets are from the cloud, but we can still add things to a local community folder… ie how else would you move PMDG’s 737 to MSFS 2024 right now? You’d move it to the Community folder.

So how to you move the community folder from C to D drive?

Upthread (or maybe in another thread) someone said you can select a location from the Library tab in the sim. But I haven’t been able to actually get into the sim aside for about 10 minutes 3+ hours ago so I can’t check.

Yes, I can’t get in either. It’s all so confusing. I’ll just have to wait until they get things fixed.

I dont have space on my C drive for gods sake… how to move the folder to another drive??

Okay.

I copied my Community folder from FS2020 to overwrite the new
FS2024 Community folder.

But, I can’t get back into the sim right now to test it.
Server problem.

I wonder if we’ll have follow this video and edit the cfg file every time there’s a sim update or will this eventually be made user friendly.

I’m not really sure why the wheel was reinvented here, the MSFS2020 community and official folders were loaded where the user directed the install. Among many reasons, people put this stuff on separate drives to keep it all away from the essential files for Windows.

This just doesn’t make any sense.

The Xbox app is confusing.

It only concerns itself with the install location of the Flight Simulator app
and not the install location of FS2020 which is the “Installed Packages”.

I had FS2020 instal;led on my J: drive and used the Xbox app “Move”
to move it to the D: drive.
Only the Microsoft Flight Simulator folder was moved.
