Wheres the hippo's

In the last video announcing xbox release the float plane fly’s over hippos anyone know where this is in the sim

in the world map, filter for ‘fauna’, and you’ll find all the wild life on the planet as POI’s

I don’t think there are hippos or rhinos in the sim at the moment,

I’m glad that they are bringing more life to the sim, hopefully more is coming

I’ve yet to see any fauna in the world ever since buying the sim on launch. I have my fauna slider to 100%, I’ve went looking for it at the correct POIs, but have never actually seen any.

I saw some bears just to the southeast of Lake Tahoe many months ago. Totally out of the blue. That’s the only fauna I’ve come across in >200 hours of flying.

About to hit 700 hours. Easily 80% of that is low level VFR and I’ve yet to see anything.

The visibility radius in wich the animals are visible is really small. So you’ll have to get really close. They move around a quite a bit so you’ll also have to be at the right place at the right time. Did multiple tries to find them. Sometimes it’s almost impossible. Other times they suddently appear right in front of you.

Ps. Everytime i did manage to find them i was on the ground😅

I tried some months back. I typed in the names of the fauna in the world map. Did slow and low (under 500 feet AGL) flights scanning the various areas for the different wildlife. Never saw a single one. Since then I haven’t gone out of my way to look for them. But I’ve never seen any accidentally either.

Yeah 9 out of 10 times i also just gave up. I think thr best way to find then is just land at the exact spot from the world map and just sit and wait…

Maybe they’re scared of aircraft noises though

Found a lonely giraffe though :joy:

Okay, the weird thing is… I found that one giraffe. I followed it. I studied it’s habits. The route he walked and everything. He walked maybe a few 100 meter… Stood there for a while, and then walked back over the same path.

Then i checked my fauna slider. It was at 0 (explaining why there was only 1). Turned it to 100 and the giraffe was gone. Restarted the flight 3 times and flown over his walking path multiple times. Not a single giraffe was seen.

Looks like you have to be lucky i guess.

MODERATOR EDIT: This post merged into this topic.

The new www.flightsimulator.com entry video has lots of floating Hippos and even a Rhino strolling by.
I’m a huge MSFS-Africa fan but are unaware of any such species in the sim.
Is this taken from the Okovango 3rd-party add-on or a teaser for the shape of wings to come i.e. an future sim version?
Any insight is appreciated.

That’s because they aren’t in the sim yet. We’re seeing a preview of what’s to come on July 27, now what’s already in the sim.

I found a rhino and polar bear, in Reno, USA  (amongst other giant animals while messing about)

Yeah the LOD is shamefully very small for animals, they “pop” in to view all of a sudden which - like the broken POIs that Asobo are avoiding - totally kills the immersion.

I went to see the elephants, after searching and finally seeing them magically appear in front of my eyes I was left extremely disappointed.
There was about 8-10 of them, all walking a fair distance apart (not in a close group like real life), all the same model, all walking at exactly the same pace/time, all exactly the same size and all heading in a random straight line, it was bad.

I get this isn’t Planet Zoo or anything, but if your gonna do something like this at least put some effort into it.

So now, we have POI of rhinos / hippos, but still can’t find a single one

Someone said here it was on the 27 july update, but we already have the POIs ?

Where are my hipppppooooossssssss

I think there’s a fauna density setting, I’d set that to max when flying around the POI’s.

can a Flightsim without hippos even be called a Flightsim?

Already at 100 fauna density, can’t find a single one

I think they put the POi by error and they are not implemented yet
