Which are your "Top favourite Cities/Places" with the best Photogrammetry to fly in? fspghangar.com

PG + hi-res ground imagery are the best thing that could have happend for us flying low  The problem is that it looks great when higher TLOD values are set (200 or higher). Yosemite and the mountain range just by the Mono Lake are my personal favourites. By the way this area is huge and hi-res terrain spreads almost to Lake Tahoe.

I’ve just discovered that there is probably new, detailed ground imagery south of lake Powell and Page, Arizona. I may be wrong but I think that there was very bad water masking and lower resolution ground. I haven’t flown there for a while. I drew the line where the southeastern borders are.

Great detailed terrain is also between Sedona and Phoenix, AZ. Sedona has been great since MSFS24 was released but I don’t remember if this hi-res terrain was so big back then.

Thank you @AirRhodesia for your great job.

I think you are right there. I know the high detail went from Marble Canyon all the way to the Grand Canyon, and a little to the east but not as far as the red line in your picture. If you notice the faint line “box” that’s roughly in the centre of your pic, that’s how far I remember it going. Will check it out later.

I did have a quick look and I don’t remember the hi-res terrain going that far south, it’s a massive area as you can see. One of my most favourite parts of the USA to fly in and wow, that’s going to keep me flying for quite some time there. I won’t ever get bored now!

I just wish Micro/Asobo would do the whole of California in hi-res terrain. The hills surrounding L.A & San Diego need attention, then that whole area would be absolute heaven to fly in! Las Vegas needs it too past Hoover Dam!

Thanks for pointing these out :+1:

It would be great to have this area updated. Las Vegas is one of the best PG cities. Area between Palm Springs-Salton Sea which are great and detailed towards San Diego would be cool.

I checked once more and now high detail area around Grand Canyon-Marble Canyon-Page-Monument Valley is like this:

It’s 30 000sq km  A lot of flying :star_struck:

This is northernmost border of updated area. Just by the lake Powell. The diffrence in detail is huge.

View form the east. Majestic Navajo Mountain is visible far away.

…and the southeastern corner. Navajo Mountain is about 130km away but still visible

Close to Sedona is Meteor Crater Natural Landmark which is also in hi-res.

Thank you for those screen shots!

You have given me an idea for the website  I’m going to do a hi-res terrain maps section, so it’ll give people an idea of what area coverage there is of these places.

That way if anyone finds anymore I can stick the screenshots on and we will be able to see if they get extended in the future.

Thanks once again!

Happy discoveries :helicopter: :small_airplane:

Edit: Hi-Res Terrain Maps “section” now added to the website. It’s just in it’s infant stages and will no doubt improve in due course

Great idea, AirRhodesia! Looking forward to this addition to your website.

I’ve just mapped the Yosemite National Park area and it’s accurate lol, I know nearly all that area looks so good, but there is a difference in the colours. So it is easy to spot in some areas.

It’s on the website now :+1:

Just to make sure everyone understands this still falls under the Photogrammetry category, although technically it’s TIN Countryside, and I’m not “drifting” away from the “Title” which does say Cities/Places

If @anon16617330 wants to message me directly you can just sent a private message so it doesn’t get flagged or hidden for violating community standards, or just join my Discord and we can chat on there freely!

It would be good if they put up updated photogrammetry of Gaza

Folks, a number of posts have had to be hidden. Please flag posts for moderation rather than replying to users directly. Thank you.

It would be brilliant to have the Middle east done in PG, especially Gaza, and Israel, should be easy enough for Micro/Asobo to do.

FYI, there is this wishlist item:

I have mapped another huge area of Hi-Res Terrain. This time it’s in Europe. North of Nice & Marseille France. I think it’s Parc national des Écrins

Stunning scenery as far as the eye can see. It’s going to take forever to explore all these places.

Thanks Micro/Asobo you’ve outdone yourselves here! Please keep extending these TIN Countryside areas :+1: Simply Stunning :exploding_head:

Here is the coverage map…

EDIT: Added Ecrins National Park, France to the list + Flight Plans - Note: This National Park is on a par with Yosemite National Park! :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:

:new: New PG City added to the list!

:france: Montpellier, France. Rated 12/15 (MSFS2024 & MSFS2020)

Another little gem that somehow got missed!

PG Quality is very good, although the PG coverage are is quite small, it’s a fantastic little French city to explore and it has a stunning IKEA! @Baracus250

Website has been updated :+1:

Happy flying folks :helicopter: :small_airplane:

This has been probably my favourite area to fly in the sim since the release of 24. Some great low level fast jet flying, then jump into a GA for a more leisurely view. The only fly in the ointment for me is that I’ve had to disable the France VFR packs as something in them causes my PC to grind to a halt.

I typically don’t do much flying in France, but that’s now changed. Not got France VFR packs, hopefully they’ll fix it soon with an update.

I found a couple more “small” PG cities in France, Rennes being one of them, it was always PG, as I can remember back in the early days of MSFS2020 it was okay quality, but just looked at it again and I’m sure it looks so much better. Might be a “MSFS2024 effect” though but I’ll have another look and I might put it on the List.

But for me it’s back to Ecrins National Park to take in some more views. Need a Dev like CLi4D to do a pack for it like he did Yosemite and others :crossed_fingers:

Edit: Rennes, France - The PG is so so good! BUT the LOD popping issues are SO BAD! Might add it to the list after I’ve got some flying time in first

Hello, I love photogrammetry - especially the higher detail ground textures. Thanks to this topic and the page you created, I have made a small mod which has the center of some of the best areas marked as POIs to explore. Just search Photo and it will bring up 5 POIs in the middle of large areas covered with 5 star rated photogrammetry.

So far I only cover the very large areas, and ones that I find acceptable quality.

Hello and thank you, I have downloaded your mod and will have a quick look at it now. This could prove to be very useful :+1:

Just tried it and I’m impressed! This will be very useful to simmers, very useful indeed. Thank you for creating this mod, I wouldn’t have a clue where to start making something like you have. Appreciate the kind words on Flightsim.to.

Your mod gets a :star::star::star::star::star: rating from me :+1:

:new: New PG Cities added to the List!

:france: Rennes, France. Rated 11/15 (MSFS2024 & MSFS2020)
:us_outlying_islands: Birmingham, AL, U.S.A. Rated 10/15 (MSFS2024 & MSFS2020)

Birmingham, AL, U.S.A Screenshots…

The PG Lists now have 240 PG Cities that are Rated :exploding_head:

Happy flying folks :helicopter: :small_airplane:

:new: PG City added to the List!

:united_states: Midland & Odessa, TX, U.S.A Rated 9/15 (MSFS2024 & MSFS2020)

PG coverage is quite large between the two cities. There is even an old fashoned Drive-in-Cinema & a replica Stone Henge! America has everything

Happy flying folks :helicopter: :small_airplane:
