Completely agree. And add inibuilds EGNM for one of Englands highest and most challenging commercial airports.
So, wassup… are we all still checking out the new Brazilian World Update cities? What do we think?
For me it is a mixed bag, in terms of visual quality. Some buildings are really good and some are pretty average to bad. Seems like the LOWER the building, the worse it is in some cases. The taller buildings are much sharper so I guess something to do with the way it was photographed?
My tentative scores:
- Brasilia - very nice, bigger than it seemed at first. 11/15
- Ouro Preto - tiny, but interesting. Lower quality but makes the score back by being interesting (layered in the hills). 11/15
- Rio de Janeiro - I am saving this one for a group flight we have planned in a few weeks, so not visited yet.
- São Paulo - absolutley MASSIVE (I say bigger thaan Tokyo), but it is all so SAMEY! There does not appear to be a heart of the city (I mean a city centre, not a “soul”). Like a focal point with any unique architecture. It’s just the same homeogenous style of buildings in every direction. A mix of shanty/slums, and grey tower blocks. No shopping centres, offices, sports area, parks… nothing much for such a huge city! I found Interlagos race track but annoyingly ONE SQAURE of it goes back to autogen. How did they miss that when all around is PG?! Very strange place overall! 10/15
Thanks mate for your reviews of Brazil. I’m currently updating the list as we speak. Thanks again mate, It’s just what I needed to get back into this!
Update very soon folks, and apologies for my absence
Will give you my thoughts on the Brazil update shortly
Mostly agree on your review, but I think São Paulo does have a city center area.
Around Marte airport, along the river, the area where the high rise buildings are sparse. About the only place where there’s no towers! Lol
It’s as spread out as the rest of the megatropolis, but different from the sameness that goes on forever. Maybe the biggest urban PG so far?
Fair enough I’ll have to have another look. To be fair I “only” flew there about 2 hours which isn’t enough to see it all lol
Rio is an easy 15/15 for me, I don’t think it needs much explanation if you’ve flown there. It looks amazing and it’s a beautiful city
10/15 for Sao Paulo is harsh imo, I’d give it at least 14/15 for the quality of the photogrammetry and the scale as it’s exceptional on both levels.
Yeah I am going to revise my score, I flew there again and found a bit more interesting stuff lol.
For sure the scale is INSANE. But maybe it’s just me that the quality of lower (2 storey or less) buildings is mostly really poor?
I’m going to have a look at them all, this time in MSFS2020 and I’ll change the ratings soon. Manual cached Rio and it was roughly 90GB. Going to do the same with San Paulo but I have a feeling it’s going to be a huge download due to it’s vast size.
But low quality! lol
Place your bets….
52gb
I’ll give you all a clue on how big it’ll possibly be in about 30mins once I’ve downloaded a small section of it. But I’m betting it’ll be 150GB+
Yes, having just flown there again I think you are right some of the dense housing doesn’t hold up as well to close scrutiny.
San Paulo Manual Cached was 150gb, the same as Rio I’ve had chance to have a proper look at San Paulo and I’m sorry to say, but I personally think its such a boring place to fly, can’t stand it!
If I had time I’d add a Top 10 places I don’t like to fly but everyone is different so each to their own.
I do think it could possibly rate at 11/15 but compare it to Rio and I agree with @SealedPaladin73 with his score of 15/15.
Might need to take a vote on what people think about San Paulo, as I agree with @Baracus250 on his review of the place but I don’t think it would rate higher that 11/15 but this is only in MSFS2020, so MSFS2024 could be slightly higher.
Possibly the second biggest, I think Los Angeles has the biggest urban area in the Sim, but I could be wrong
I’ll update the PG List this weekend with the new ratings.
Happy flying all
There’s a fair bit of personal preference, there’s not too many mega cities in the game so I like it for the sheer scale of it (I wish Tokyo was an area this big in the game) but can see how people wouldn’t like it.
Totally agree with you there
Same here. Maybe one day in the very near future Micro/Asobo might give us all an early Christmas present and extend the Tokyo PG which would be nice. I don’t understand how such a well know Capital City could have incomplete PG coverage. IMO it would be nice if Micro/Asobo would concentrate their PG efforts on covering all Capital Cities of the world. Maybe one day
I didn’t care for Sau Paulo. It’s quality just didn’t seem very good. The residential structures were the first things I noticed – they all had that rounded, melted look. Even the larger structures weren’t exactly sharp. I would have thought a ‘most recent’ release would be better.
For example: heres two shots of Sau Paulo on my X Box X:
this one appears to be a shopping mall:
Compare that to a shopping mall in Orlando FL:
The other thing I didn’t care for about Sau Paulo was how similar so many of the high rise buildings were (apparent color and texture) – but maybe thats how it is in real life:
Thanks for the screenshots. I totally agree with everything you’ve said 100%.
Been looking at older posts and noticed I never got back to you. Apologies for that.
I’m on PC and I’ll have a look at it shortly and report back to you. No doubt if it did look bad then it might have improved by now
I can confirm that on PC Washington DC in MSFS2024 still looks incredible! Sorry no screenshots as I only fly in VR and I’m too lazy to learn how to take screenshots in VR
Hope it’s looking better for you on XBOX
Hey - thanks for answering. bad news for me though. I was hoping it was universally bad
It’s beginning to look like XBox and Fs2024 just won’t go together. or, at least, in some places.
Hopefully Micro/Asobo will sort it out soon for Xbox users because you guys are missing out big time!
