Which GA Aircraft?

I’m new to MSFS and I do prefer to fly the stock C152 and the C172 Classic because I use a 1080p tv and I have trouble reading the G1000 display until I zoom in. I’m in the market for a new telly !
Which is the most accurate sock GA aircraft because people on here talk about ‘ study level ‘?.
I’m using XBX with controller and mouse but plan to get a flight stick..

I find the Beech Barron very good. It matches the performance of the real aircraft very well and is a pleasure to fly.
Try adjusting how close to you the instrument panel is by adjustments in General options, and then use the camera sliders.

Moving up to the TBM930 might be a good choice for default aircraft.

I’ve been playing with the TBM, quite a beast😜

The DA62 with the free DA62X mod is a sure bet. If you want to stick with a single engine, the same author has the same type of mod for the DA40.

Are you looking for the best default aircraft, or are you looking to buy one?

Do you prefer singles or twins?

Is the Cessna Citation considered GA for you? If it is, then that’s my favourite GA to fly with.

The Cessna 172S SkyHawk G1000 with Bagolu’s (free) improvement mod is my current go to, see: [UPDATE] Cessna 172SP Skyhawk AS1000 improvement mod (freeware) | Bagolu

Default aircraft for now, not quite ready for payware yet. Small GA to get going :+1:

Is that the twin jet Cessna ? Will give it a go :+1:

Does this mod work on XBX as there is a good mod for the C152 but doesn’t work on Xbox .

Ah, probably not to be fair, the mod folder has to be installed in the Community folder on PC. I’ve not got any experience of XBox but I don’t think it allows that type of mod to be installed?

nope, Xbox is a closed ecosystem, so the addons can only be purchased from the marketplace. No manual installation can be done.

Looks like I’m stuck with these type of mods but there’s plenty
to do😜

Your choice of the C152 and C172 Classic was perfect to start with.

Other suggestions are good, too.. Personally the next step up I would suggest would be the Bonanza, as opposed to going straight to a twin engine plane. In real life, getting your twin engine ticket is actually relatively expensive and complicated, the most important thing to do there is learn how to manage the plane when you lose an engine on takeoff. As the saying goes, “The second engine is there to fly you to the crash site”.

The Bonanza is a good upgrade as it’s still single engine, but it adds a variable pitch prop and retractable landing gear.

What I HIGHLY recommend is that you search the internet for actual pilot manuals or POH’s (Pilot Operating Handbooks) for each of the planes. You can find links to them in the various threads for the aircraft from people as well as just Googling yourself.

What you’ll want to gleam from these manuals are, first the operating weights, how much fuel they carry, the “V-speeds”. After you get the hang of these, start to understand the performance charts with altitude.

And, the most important thing in flying,… Trim, trim, trim…

I’ve tried a few GA aircraft but I’ve got on best with the C152. I’m still using the XBX controller and the aircraft is easy to fly and trim. Not as easy with the C172, I’ve also tried the Bonanza which are a little bit tricky to trim.
Next week I hope to get a TB velocity one flight stick, that should throw the cat amongst the pigeons for a while.:+1:

I highly recommend also investing in a pair of rudder pedals, too (I assume they are available for Xbox now?).

I had to head to a meeting… but, my comment on trim was, always look to adjust your elevator trim so you don’t have to use the controls to hold the pitch of the plane, no matter what your current state is. IOW, on your initial climb, adjust the trim so you don’t have to hold the stick back. Except in situations where you are reacting to something, you want to have your pitch controller be in a neutral state.

I’d bet that 80% of the reason people complain about how “pitchy” flight models are is because they aren’t using elevator trim to maintain their pitch attitude. Since we don’t have force feedback to tell us when to stop moving, over controlling the plane is super easy, you can extremely easy apply to the plane forces that you would never be able to apply in real life because of the dynamics of our controller, the distance to move versus how much pitch it actually applies, etc., etc., hence, it seems like the flight model is “pitchy” as you get into a feedback loop overcontrolling to get to the pitch you want.

With the C152 I set the trim for level flight and if the vs goes up or down I leave the trim alone and use the throttle to fine tune level flight. I don’t know if this is right but it works. :+1::winking_face_with_tongue:

This is why I feel that FlyByWire controls on aircraft are godsend.

I have an S95B OLED I sim on, and it’s amazing. Super clear. You should probably plan to get a beefier system/gpu as well.

I also use a xbox controller. You can LB+Left Stick tap forward to look a little closer. RB+right stick up and down does trim (super useful for level flight).

The TBM930 is fast and fun for ■■■■ around flying, don’t have to think about mountains much, just zoom, but it turns very poorly, and poses little challenge.
I bounce between c172 and dual prop DA62. I like all the extra buttons and startup process on the da62, kinda fun. Both require planning for clearing mtns.
