I currently own a 4K 60hz for my 3090 gpu but it struggles a lot even with render scaling set on 80 with settings on high. I’m currently thinking switching over to a 3440x1440 144hz ultra wide monitor. Will a 1440p monitor reduce my stuttering? Will I see a difference with graphics?
You haven’t mentioned what CPU you have, but struggling with a 3090 is probably telling you more of a limitation of the sim at its current state than the potential benefit of going from 4k to UW resolution. I would choose an UW based on the advantages it offers, such as the level of immersion of an extended field of view, rather than the promise of a clear benefit in terms of performance. I believe our sim still needs some tuning for that to occur.
[Yesterday I was getting around 20 fps while flying the drone over Drzewiecki’s city of Chicago on a 9900k, 2080Ti, 3440x1440 with ultra settings]
Ok, get the UW monitor, want one too, as 32" curved Samsung seems too small now after two years. Thinking around 43, but, check reviews, these panels have some issues, so make sure good return policy. Lots of reviews on YouTube, which are good. I am going to wait until next year, after CES if it happens, because a whole bunch of new ones will be released and hopefully the specs and quality will go up. Currently, I only like ASUS and Samsung, but others make a good one too. Believe VA panels are on way out, not sure if OLED will improve enough, and many of the reviews say at least 500 nits brightness minimum if you play other games aside from this one, as you need some brightness even when dark to see baddies and instruments and stuff. 500 nits is going to cost money. And I am surly no expert, just what I have been learning, it’s an education knowing all the jargon and understanding what it all means.
I run a standard I9-9900 CPU with a RTX-2070 , 32 Gig RAM and a 43" Ultra wide 3840x1200 120hz monitor and run
my setup with high end to Ultra settings and get great results…
The optimization is getting better as time rolls on and hopefully when Direct X12 rolls out we have even better results…But I am happy for now…
@Machete3181
I’ll edit my post but I currently have a i9-10900k with 64gb ram clocked at 3200mhz.
I’m happy with my fps rate, my only concern is the micro stuttering.
Edit: never thought about switching my resolution lol. I will give that a try.
I was looking at the Asus ultra wide monitor which is g-sync 144hz but it’s pretty expensive. I don’t know if I’ll get good results in the flight sim with that or is it just good with other games.
Note, this video is about year old, monitor is over year old, and I don’t think its 4K. I would wait until after CES in Vegas (assuming some kind of show) and then see what is new. That is my approach for now. I also want to see how well my new joystick and the throttle quadrant work, then will get pedals, and lastly the flight yoke when released. E=bay has them, but aint going to play that game period. Let us know which one you settle on when you make decision.
Oh, I get the stutters as well, have to remember to turn off ASUS Communications helper, since it scans about every 5 seconds. Took off Zone Alarm as well, as every time you move mouse it scans for something. Running ASUS ROG Strix III laptop-I-7-9750-RTX-2070 32GB System Ram. The patches change so much stuff, I have not checked settings in a while. I followed the recommendations from the folks who wrote “A Guide to Flight Simulation” it has detailed setup on what you should do in setting up graphics stuff. I custom setup my joystick presently using. It breaks every patch as well. I have had no issues with updating the Nvidia Drivers to latest one released last week. I also updated the intel graphics driver since it won’t or did not auto update. That one makes no difference in MSFS.
Somewhere I found an Article By David Flinch "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 PC Tweaks - How to get 1080P 60FPS = I did what the article says, enabling V-sync in the Nvidia Control Panel, and just did test flight from PMDY round robin back. I did not notice any stutters then. I will have to check more later on, after BH goes to bed, too many interruptions to make sure it’s gone. Search for article see if those settings help.
That is it. And I went back through it, did mostly what he said and no more stutters. Test flight from PMDY round robin, and the audio clicked once in a while but I ascribe that to my Samsung Ear Buds, not so much the game. The Bluetooth in this laptop, is not strong, but the game did fine, unlike the first time I tried it and it stuttered horribly.
