Which Monitors do you use for MSFS?

I want to get myself a new monitor and wonder what is important for the best MSFS experience. My hardware is good for Ultra graphic settings

I have the ASUS VG248QE 3D 144hz monitor. It’s a very nice one. I’m certainly happy with it. I connect it to my PC via Display Port to Display Port connection. As I understand it, an HDMI cable connection wouldn’t allow the monitor to display at 144hz.

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”

I use a 27" 1080p monitor and it looks just fine.

But if you can afford a 4K monitor and have a system that will run it i say go for it

I went the complete opposite direction from “Modern” when I inherited my dad’s 40" Samsung UN40H5003 TV. It may “only” be 1080 resolution, but it still has a great picture and sitting on my desk, it’s right in front of me and just about fills my field of view. It was built before everything had to be “smart,” but it has a good picture and better sound than any computer speaker I’ve ever used.

Acer X35 Predator HDR 1000nit@200hz 3440x1440 35inch.

Benq 35 inch Ultra wide 1440p and 2 Benq 27 inch 1440p as side monitors :slightly_smiling_face:

I bought my AOC 27 inch curved 1080 monitor in Aug 2020 with my new system for MSFS
and I had been thinking more recently about upgrading to a 33 inch 2K or 4K ($300-350)
however,I am so impressed with my video quality using DLDSR 2.25 that I don’t feel the need to get a new monitor (at present)

A few months later got really good ASUS 31.5 inch 4k (60 hz) $300 some dollars
its great! still get 40-60 fps on mostly ULTRA with DLSS quality and DLDSR 2.25 (with I7-9700k and RTX 2070 Super) !

I use LG 34GN850 UW 144hz Nano IPS 1ms.

Been really happy with the purchase. Think UW ratio is perfect for flight sims & work.

Less ideal for FPS type games though.

I got a Samsung Odyssey G7, 27 inch, WQHD, 240Hz, Curved monitor.
Can only recommend it!

I use a 55 inch 4k sony tv as the main and 3 additional 1920x1080. Works well

I put a 55" LG 55UN7300 4K TV monitor on my desk ~2 ft from my eyes. I love it, with both MSFS and for regular computing because I can have a ton of windows open and see them all at once. I Fly GA and the instrument panel and view is nearly life size. Performance was fine with my old 4790K/2070 Super/18GB system. Even better now with 11700K/3080TI/64GB system.

Saying you run at Ultra doesn’t really tell us much about your system or your performance, BTW.

I use Samsung G9 49

just some things to consider,
if this is mainly for msfs, then you dont need to worry about super high “Hz” numbers (unless your pc gets that high an fps with the game) but you will likely get decent speeds with any ‘gaming’ monitor (i would go for resolution over speed if possible, but thats my opinion and resolution will hit performance more)
size is relative to distance, bigger is not always better
for me at least i would not go much above 32-35 inch, but im close to the moniter (less than 2 feet with my desk setup) again only an opinion but bigger than that is ‘too high’ for me personally - again it may depend on your desktop as much as monitor

I have a Samsung 55" Q70A class Qled (QN55Q70AAFXZA) and love it. It works well in low light environments and has been reviewed as very good for gaming in the dark (see link).

Samsung Q70/Q70A QLED Review (QN55Q70AAFXZA, QN65Q70AAFXZA, QN75Q70AAFXZA,

It also has other excellent features like a 120Hz screen refresh, supports HDR10 along with MSFS, HDMI 2.1, the latest Freesync premium pro standard along with many other gaming features. Beware, though only the 55" model and up support some of the key gaming features.

One of the things I really like about this TV is the AI upscaling engine is excellent so you can set up MSFS as full screen, 1440p, and let the TV upscale to 4k. This will take some of the burden off your video card and the output looks fantastic (I’m not using FSR/DLSS).

Not sure if you use HDR10 with your current monitor but it looks amazing on this QLED!

Have you tried a 4K 55" TV at that same distance? It’s pretty amazing. I’ve used it for the last 2 years with the hardware I noted above; 4790K/2070 Super/18GB and now 11700K/3080TI/64GB systems, the second of which I also use with an HP G2 rev 2 VR.

You didn’t say what resolution you were using at 32-35" monitor.

I am using a Samsung G9 49" 32:9 curved Monitor with 5120x1440 pixel.

I switch between an old LCD TV Samsung 42" 1080p which give a very good image, and my new MSI MAG321CURV 32" 4K, used as 2560x1440p for MSFS.

I bought a curved wide-screen monitor, which was a mistake. MSFS doesn’t support wide-screen at all well: the outer edges are stretched sideways.

There are two approaches I’d suggest:

  1. Buy a 4k monitor and set it up so that you sit no more than a foot or so from the screen.

  2. Buy three 1080p monitors of the same size and set them up with one in front and the other two at about 80 degrees, so you sit in a cave of screens.

You don’t need high performance gaming monitors because frame rates will never be particularly high and it doesn’t matter. If you could get high FPS you’d be well advised to cap it to keep the cooling fans quiet.

Do consider what connections they have. I’d suggest displayport because that’s what modern video cards use, but hdmi is fine too. You can get dp to HDMI cables.

You do need big monitors. The bigger the better. You are trying to fill your entire field of view with screen space That in turn poses issues for the desk arrangement.

I have to be honest, I really don’t see the point of curved screens. They don’t show any more than a flat screen of the same size does. Or do they?

Curved screens are great if properly supported. The curve means your eyes have to refocus less as you look at the edges.

They are specifically for one person sitting fairly near in front of them, not for a family watching a film across the room

MSFS doesn’t work well with wide-screen, curved or not, but the edge distortion is made worse with curved.
