Which of these two CPU's is better for MSFS

Trying to compare AMD 5800X and AMD 5800X3D, the 5800X is faster but older… the 5800X3D is slightly slower but ranks higher on CPU benchmark…

Which is better?

And why?

It has 96MB L3 cache versus 32MB which MSFS loves.

X3D in any AMD lineup for MSFS.

X3D.

Get the 5800X3D! And what GPU do you have? The 5800X3D will give you a smoother experience in both 2D and VR.
Enjoying mine. Bought mine with the intent to upgrade to a stronger GPU.
It’s definitely putting my rx6800 to work, more GPU bound under DX12 with the exception of annoying bugs.

I have 3600X

Will the 3XD be better than that and 5800X

I guarentee that the 5800X3D will perform miles better than the 5800X

MSFS LOVES 3D cache

Real world here. I swapped a 5800X3D in and sold my 5800X. I too was concerned about the lower clock speed (which is locked, BTW - no overclocking ‘allowed.’) But the X3D boosts to 4450MHz in use, and as they say, “cache is king.” The upgrade was definitely worth it for me, as I’m seeing a solid 10-15% increase in FPS, and, more importantly, significantly lower frame latency. The latest AMD BIOS added ‘Kombo Strike’ which has three levels of wizardry. Not sure of everything they do with it, but with ‘CPU-Z HW-Monitor’ I can see that it undervolts the CPU, allowing it to run a little cooler and stay in boost longer.

I swapped out a 3600 non X for the 5800X3D and my fps went from variable 25 to 28fps on the ground to a rock solid 40 ( I choose to lock frames for increased stability). The only time it’ll tank is somewhere like KLAX with full AI, even then, it’s around 28 to 32. Frametimes and smoothness (what really counts) have improved considerably due to the large cache on the CPU. Also worth noting, I’m on a 3070 so something more powerful would arguably give even better results.

It’s a great upgrade for AM4 users without shelling out a couple of oil fields for a new rig.
