Which version of MSFS24 if you have MSFS20 40th PD?

Hello, and my apologies for such a predictable question! I would sincerely appreciate your guidance.

I have purchased MSFS 2020 40th Anniversary Premium Deluxe edition through the Microsoft Store, and I have not purchased any other content (aeroplanes, airports, etc.)

I have Game Pass, but I would like to support the developers and purchase MSFS 2024. My inner collector would like to buy the most complete version possible!

Since I already have MSFS 2020 40PD, I would be grateful for your help with two questions:

  1. What new content is available in MSFS 2024 Aviator Edition, which is not already in MSFS 2020 40PD (and should transfer over)?

  2. Is any new content in MSFS 2024 Aviator Edition worth the additional cost? I appreciate this is entirely subjective, but any experience with new content would be great to hear!

Thank you!

DR

Hello DR,

Every aircraft with ‘NEW’ next to their name in the Standard, Deluxe, and Premium sections

The ones without ‘NEW’ are the ones that transfer over.

From the Aviator section you get any aircraft you haven’t already bought from the marketplace on 2020. (The ones you already own have already transferred over)

Very subjective, it also depends how many you already own, which ones you already own, whether you want the others you don’t already own, and what type of flying you like to do!

Hi @Speed1994,

Many thanks for your reply! I think you have helped my poor addled mind to unlock this poster of aeroplanes, for which I am very grateful!

Since I have never bought any aeroplanes from the Marketplace (and only have those included in the 40th Anniversary Premium Deluxe edition of MSFS20), I assume that the 30 ‘silver tier’ planes in the Aviator Edition of MSFS24 would all be new to me? If so, even more reason to go for the all-in top edition!

Thanks again for your help.

Cheers,

DR

Correct, all 30 ‘silver tier’ aeroplanes would be new to you too!

You’re very welcome :sunglasses:

Just to offer another perspective, I don’t think the Aviator’s Edition is worth it.

The Local Legends and Famous Flyers that come with it are direct carry overs from 2020. The quality of these addons varies widely, and there’s tons of useful information on the forums about them.

In general, these addons just aren’t great. They’ve received little support after they each released, which leaves them with unaddressed issues that need fixing. On top of those known problems, many have new problems in FS24. Asobo has not provided any information on their plans to support them further in FS24.

Now, there are some real gems. These are legitimately worth the price, and a few are made to be great thanks to community mods. There are maybe 5-10 at most that are up to the quality I expect from official addons. Even these may not work well in FS24 since there’s no way to develop new mods or port existing ones at this time.

I recommend skipping the Aviator’s Edition and thoroughly researching the LL/FF addons you might really want. Save your money and buy those individually.

Thanks, @FndrStrat06!

You’re definitely right that some of these additional aircraft might not be up to snuff - and I’m a bit weary of flushing yet more cash down the swanee to reward undercooked DLC - but I expect that I’ll probably get enough value out of the better content to justify the cost over other editions.

Perhaps one day I’ll sleep better with a few coins wisely left in the piggy bank. I’ll definitely read through some of the reviews of the LL&FF before making the jump.

Thanks again for your advice!
