Who tried MSFS2024 on a 49inch display?

I have a 49" display samsung LED - Odyssey G95C S49CG954EU

I can’t do VR because it makes me nauseous…and more!

I change my configuration (PC and Display) for MSFS2024 and I have no regrets about the choice of the screen.
It gives a huge immersion and it’s really beautiful.

What do you think of the 49" display ?

I like it a lot.

My setup is triple monitors, slow in fps but I love the spatial awareness.

I used to use a 49" Odyssey G9 but now use a 27" Acer Nitro XV271UM3.

same here curved 49 inch 32:9 with head tracking. VR isn’t for me. Need to feel buttons and knobs with my own hand try to avoid the mouse inflight. That’s hard to do with VR, also I would probably have nausea problems as well.

Samsung 49" G9 Oled here. Would not trade this monitor for anything. You will hear alot of people complaining about edge distortion. However, if you have the monitor positioned correctly in front of you everything will be dimensionally intact in the center where you are looking.

As stated above head tracking is a must.

65 inch TCL 4K, 60 Hz here.

Love it in FS2020 & FS2024.

What is head tracking ?
I think I don’t have a particular system ?
Is it an option in fs2024 ?

I have found my people

43" monitor, sitting quite close, using a tobii eye tracker

I use Tobii Tracker 5. It helps a lot, even with my tiny 32" 16:9 monitor.
There are other less expensive 2D head tracking options out there, but I have no interest in them.

The calibration tool in the sim is very poorly implemented however. It was really good in FS2020, and now it’s awful. There is a workaround (found here if you search for ‘tobii xml’) but that’s not a true fix. Based on what I’ve seen, that fix is far into the future.

So head tracking is a benifit even with 32:9 ?

I guess the sensitivity can be much lower and less weird.

Is Tobii the best?

I am using the 32:9 57" Version of the Samsung Odyssey. Going back to a 16:9 seems like looking into a narrow tunnel now. I also use the ultra wide monitor for my daily work. Working with multiple apps open is much easier with this monster display.

I got the same issues with VR, nausea …

Being able to turn your head from the left and right edges of the screen and see a full 180° behind you (if you so choose) is huge.

I can’t speak to “the best” because I haven’t tried them all. But I used to use Track IR, and in my opinion Tobii is far superior.

I use a tobii eye tracker 5 too, the extra immersion is really good, looking out the window or finding screens and switches etc, highly recommended

I tried Tobii but didn’t like it. Didn’t feel right somehow, but I can’t describe it really.

I currently use two systems:

  • Beam Eye Tracker: works well with most webcams and is a payware app you can get from Steam for 28.99 EUR (incl. VAT)
  • Grass Monkey Head Tracker: head tracking system you wear on your head.

Pros and Cons:
Grass monkey works with IR and is more precise and works in basically any light situation, whereas the Beam Eye Tracker doesn’t require you to wear anything on your head or check batteries etc.

If you want to start out without investing anything and already own a webcam you can download a free Demo version of Beam Eye Tracker.

Does the Beam Eye Tracker allow you configure the Eye Track : Head Track ratio?
In Tobii I use 0% Eye Tracking / 100% Head Tracking.

I honestly can’t say for sure. Never thought about that and didn’t stumble across anything like that. But that doesn’t automatically mean it’s not there.

85 inch Samsung, who needs VR?

I actually went back to 16:9 (but a taller 32" display) after getting a TrackIR v5 head tracker. Just didn’t need the extra peripheral vision space, and it makes for cleaner captures.

49 inch curved LED screen here. I use a Tobi Eye Tracker controlled with Open Track. This setup works really well for me. It is a lot cheaper than a decent VR setup and for me is far better.

Same setup i like the 43 inch because the ppi is over 100. Plus 43 inch can have 4 windows open on each quadrant of the scree when not working. Tobii eye tracker makes it work great with the sim. If they would just finish native support for 2024.
