I really don’t understand why we are forced to download parts of the world or airports that I will NEVER visit? Huge updates on the content I will never use…
Why not show the globe and highlight parts of it, RED if it’s not downloaded, and blue if it is. When you click on an area it gives you the option to download it if you want to fly there.
Oh no, now we get a game over 100GIG with information on areas and airports I would probably never see or use in 98% of the game.
and FIX THE SAT IMAGERY DOWNLOAD OF THE GAME !

you don’t need to install the world update. It’s an optional download (free purchase) from the in-game Marketplace.

Do you really think that you will get anything done by the tone of your post?

When I open the game, it starts a 5 gig download, just like the other previous one’s, before taking me to the menu where I can access the marketplace. Does this not include update to area’s and airports, is this only game fixes ?
Only thing is we don’t. The main download are fixes and textures for global scenery and sometimes minor bugfixes. The Word Update content has always and will always be an optional download though the marketplace…

Correct. the 5.3GB is just patches. The World update is an optional 3.5GB download from the Marketplace.

Ok, then I apologize.
It just feels whenever I open this game it has huge data downloads.
There’s a patch (world update or sim update) once every month. If you get huge data downloads every time you open the game, that probably means you only open it once per month.

Do you by any chance know anything about the SAT download section, why the grid is not moving correctly, or is it a bug or is it something else I obviously don’t understand?
SAT download? I understand from your context you mean the Manual Cache?
Yes, it’s fine until you start to move around, then the grid moves at a different speed from what was selected on the area behind.
This is indeed a bug. It’s been alerted to the devs, no idea when this gets fixed unfortunately
This is a World Update, so mostly scenery. Installation instructions were given by the very kind people of Asobo and/or the community managers.
It’s almost always a three step process as described in many topics:
The last one is your to go place for free goodies, with the option of not installing those.
Hopefully you’ll enjoy what’s offered nonetheless.

Like others said you don’t have to get the marketplace download, there is no need to speak in such a tone, what great first post on the forums.

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned here is that it’s not a big secret when the mandatory updates are due to drop (usually on a Thursday). Users get notified weeks in advance via this forum, unless it’s a hotfix to something that REALLY got screwed up in a recent patch. In that case, people will complain persistently, so if you see that, it’s a good idea to mentally prepare yourself and allocate time for such a download.
Either way, a preflight mandatory download should be about as surprising as the sun going down at the end of the day.
As far as this post goes though, try not to sweat it too much. I’ve been part of a lot of online communities over the years, and I’ve seen much worse behavior in a first-time post. Welcome aboard, and happy flying.

I was reacting to the tone of the OP. Was not such a great post, was it? Jumping in and yelling… not my idea of a great introduction. Sorry.
A reaction implies an emotion-driven statement without a great deal of thought put into it, crafted with the “lizard brain” part of the mind. You know what’s better? A response. One that is thought out and calculated, contributes something to the discussion, and doesn’t have quite as much potential to set people off. One can also take more more ownership and accountability for a response, be prouder of it, and stand behind it more credibly if it proves to be unpopular.
That’s not saying that anything you said was necessarily wrong or incorrect, I just think the distinction is important and it can influence one’s mindset when replying to a thread like this.

I will repeat what many others have said, to get to the free (they are actually not free - continues updates are promised when you purchase the software) goodies should not involve having to visit 3 different locations and in the right order to get it to update itself. This is 2021 not 1985, simply ridiculous the hoops you have to jump through. People defending how good the update system is make me laugh.

I’m flabbergasted. My response was thought out, informative, with a wink and, yes, with a little correction to start with, because I really find this manner of posting not acceptable. Read back my post and see for yourself that I am actually giving a very helpful answer.
I will keep pushing back on the negative yelling when I see it and feel the need to do so. This simply has to change.
But in fact I need to be wiser than this and my impatience got the upper hand. So hereby I apologize to @Donati4699 for my second reaction because his tone had already changed in between his posts. I’ll delete the first line.
I find this actually a great solution. In this way they balance the download load and it gives us the opportunity not to install optional content.
Besides that: there are more important things to fix as you can see in the development blog.
