By which I mean that devs have released them and it takes weeks for them to get to the store. Why is this?

I fully agree
The addons need to be checked over by staff before they are put on to the MP. Also, if the updates we get from MS are anything to go by, they have a backlog of products to release.

Well it’s a real disincentive to buy from the MP - I’m all in favour of checking but you have to be timely about it.
