Why don’t any of the airliners have a low-pitched “buzz” at TO/GA?

Good Morning,

In real life, when I fly on an airliner, at TO/GA there is a low-pitched hum. How come none of the airliners (Like the A320neo, 747-8, 787-10) in the sim have that? The only airliner that has that in the sim is the Aerosoft CRJ.

I have an audio recording of what I am talking about at TO/GA.

This is exactly how a Boeing 737 and an Airbus A320 equipped with CFM56 turbines sound, a good roar with buzzsaw sound

This is how it sounds when I sit next to the Airbus turbine (and I always sit next to the turbine because this is the coolest seat in the airplane and when booking the ticket it is possible to choose where to sit, this is an IAE V2500 turbine.) From this seat position the vortex when having very foggy air can be observed best:

The sound you have uploaded might be an airplane having back-mounted engines while sitting in the front, in this case it is especially silent in the cabin.
It is not common to have such a silent ambience in the cabin with being barely able to hear the turbines like in the soundfile, only a few planes having the engine nacelles mounted under a T-tail are that silent in the cabin. (The MD-80 is one this, it was labelled as one of the most silent airplanes inside the cabin, and a few others like the Lockheed 1011.)

I agree the MSFS default airliner engine sounds aren’t up to the quality of some of the third party airlines with the CFM/GE series engines such as the Fenix A320, the FBW A320neo, the PMDG 737’s .

But, remember when your sitting in the cockpit of larger planes like the 787 or 747, you are sitting farther away from the engines. They won’t sound the same as if you were a passenger sitting with the wing view.

Yes-I was towards the front of the plane. I forgot what plane it was but yes-it was toward the front.

But, they were wing mounted engines.

“Towards the front”? This sounds a LOT like a cockpit phone recording, the voice callouts mumbled into the headset and not cought by the microphone.. You can even hear the 3 detents of the Airbus thrust levers…

Those were people talking (or my IFE through my headphones)

I believe that is overhead bin luggage moving.

I found the video that I took on the takeoff-it is in the Sway. (Link: Low-Pitched Hum Question)

The aircraft is an Airbus A321-200.

lol I would never have thought THAT…

The PMDG 737 has quite a lot of buzzsaw N1 sound when spooled up… in fact I think a bit too much (though I’m usually wearing an ANR headset in the real plane.) Too much or not, it does sound good in the sim.

:grimacing: :flushed: :flushed:
and, speaking of buzz-saw sounds, the umm, most likely seat to get buzz-sawed when a blade or two gives way and isn’t contained by the engine safety ring… Eek!

Wish you well!!!

Only benefits from sitting next to the turbine. When it explodes or when an uncontained blade-off event happens the turbine will finish me off so quick that I will be the only one not burning in the wreckage after the emergency landing.
By the safest place to seat is directly between the wings, statistics say that most of the survivors sat between the wings.

Not sure if OP ever tried the PMDG 737?

No-I am on Xbox so can’t.

Makes sense

That cockpit video is pretty much how it is, probably less apparent with that buzzsaw sound, and a whole lot more bass and deep base. The A321 is quieter and less buzzsaw really heard.
In general though that phone picks up more sound than what your ears would hear.

I agree that the sim sounds need improvement, and none really are quite there yet.

Just to remind you I am not in the cockpit-I am at the front of the airplane

Ok. The sound in the cabin and the cockpit are different, due to the big bulkhead behind the cockpit. Just as the sound is different behind the engines or in front of the engines.

quite easy to swap out the default sounds for some others, i’m using the default 320neo with FBW sounds

I released that the Bredok3D CFM 56 Sound and Liveries Pack has the buzzsaw for the A320neo. A good option for Xbox users.
