Why is 'gammetry so wildly inconsistent throughout the map?

I think I’m positively hating the photogrammetry in this game. It can look absolutely fine in the US and most European locations but when you fly over London and Paris for example, there’s chunks of scenery spawning in right underneath you.

One day New York looks fine, the next day there’s blurry textures, LOD issues and photogrammetry popping in all around me.

Whether flying at height or close to 300-1000 feet off the ground, the photogrammetry is literally spawning in and out in chunks, either right in front of the plane or around it. At height l, objects look like toothpicks and crayons.

I think this photogrammetry and bad texture/LOD issues have been going on long enough.

Is it Asobo’s inconsistent servers?
Is it SU15?
Is it the Xbox not being able to keep up? Nah, scratch that last one out as the game looked stunning on Xbox when it launched with SU13 I believe being the best update to date in terms of visual fidelity AND performance… Or was it SU11? I’m not sure…

Anyway, I’m fed up with this… When I want to relax and fly, I just want things to look immaculate with zero pop in or spawning, no frame rate lagging or stuttering, and the game loading pre and post flight properly without me having to disconnect and reconnect the internet just to get to the main menu.

I’m on a 75mbps dedicated fibre optic connection, nobody else uses it when I’m playing FS.

RC is set to 120gb.

I always do a full shutdown and cold boot of both the game and console between sessions.

This is on Asobo. They need to sort out the game and their servers. It’s just not enjoyable, sorry.

very easy to answer. Different providers, and governments willingness to have certain places photographed. This isnt always Microsoft , and Microsoft can only purchase whats available.

None of the above. You may have read recently that after four, and a half years they have finally got permission to overfly Washington DC to gather some PG/TIN. That same plane, and kit was not used in London. It was not used in France, or Germany either.

The simple answer is that PG varies in quality because it has been captured with different people flying different planes or drones, using different equipment, with different settings, and dare I suggest it different levels of understanding on how to get the most out of it all.

i will concur with the above answers and add that flying over PG (particularly low and fast) pushes everything to the absolute limit, so its only logical that inconsistencies will occur. I understand and I can live with that.

The quality of PG data of a given city depends on who makes it. If that data is sloppy and not optimized and/corrected (London) you will notice it. Since you have to cover the whole world it doesnt make sense to fly the same people all over the world to do it. I’m guessing that for many cities they either use already available data (made by others) or they hire someone locally to take the PG data for them. This will result in varying quality.

in Paris though, there are a few patches of missing PG in the middle of the city… i dont know what’s that about

Probably Government buildings.
All traffic is prohibited above Paris . Exceptions include military aircraft and civil aeroplanes flying no lower than 6,500 feet (2,000 m). Authorisations are either given by the Ministry of Defence, for military aircraft, or by the Paris Police Prefecture and the Directorate General for Civil Aviation for civil ones.

ding ding ding ding!! its a bingooo

It’s been pretty widely agreed for years that those locations look awful. So my recommendation would be to not fly in London or Paris for now until they add new photogrammetry.

I can’t imagine they’d ever implement photogrammetry that bad going forward. It’s not worth it when it’s even uglier than autogen buildings. I could be wrong, but I think after the Canada update was mostly considered a disappointment nearly two years ago, they’ve raised their bar for accepted quality. Or maybe we’ve just been lucky. I’m sure they’ve also learned some things over the past 5 years.

This issue I have personally not had in NYC, so that could just be a server thing on the days you were flying.

Right, so the solution for now is to not fly over London and Paris at all? These two are the only two cities I have real issues with, everywhere else it’s fine or generally acceptable.

Somebody over here said Germany is inconsistent too? Nope, looks pristine on my end. Go figure.

Anybody know if/when Paris and London will be getting CUs? They’re so beautiful IRL, it’d be a shame having to bypass them due to 'gammetry issues.

for london, downloading it with the manual cache will take care of SOME of the popping, but not all of it

Downloading with the manual cache? Are you referring to RC?

I’m on Xbox.

ah… i dont know if you have manual cache on xbox, sorry
