Why is My Photogrammetry so Poor?

Hello,
Here, everybody seem appreciate photogrammetry.
So, why my photogrammetry is so bad ?

I often fly with helicopter, low, below 100ft and slowly, 100knots or less.
Since the last sim update, i expected an improvement of my photogrammetry but after some flights, i do not see nothing better on all cities. It kills immersion.
What is the trouble ? My settings, the speed of my connection (fiber), data quality or Microsoft platform, others ?

There are two types of terrestrial photogrammetry:

  • Metric photogrammetry uses coordinate points on features to visualize an object with near exact measurements.
  • Interpretive photogrammetry, meanwhile, takes a photograph and adds topography using indicators like the shapes, shadows and patterns presented in an image, rather than coordinates.

I’m guessing Asobo uses the latter method. It would be pretty overwhelming to try to laser scan every building.

The problem seems to be that when you are close to interpretive PG objects they turn into melted globs of goo. Not great for low and slow helicopter sightseeing.

I’d love to have someone prove me wrong and tell me the problem here is with my 7950X3D / 3090 Ti 24GB / 1Gb fiber system.

Note that things look great when I’m out in the wilderness.

The big rock to the right of the Juice Goose or whatever its called…is it collidable or does the car just drive right through it?

Thanks for your answer, I’m newbie.

Good question. Notice the van sitting on top of the rock(?) in the background. Honestly, I don’t know if the green thing is a rock or a tree.

I ran into several invisible objects and fell through some elevated roadways.
I would love to be able to drive the Goose around in PG cities, but I haven’t found one that works. I can climb mountains though, and they look pretty good.

Mostly that is poor bandwidth from the flight sim servers, no matter how fast your connection is, has been my experience.

Melted building shows that the data is not loading.

Even when it’s loaded and looks good, if you get real close to objects and the ground it can look poor.

I would think that if it was a server issue I could sit on a road for an hour and the objects would eventually look like real buildings, roads, rocks and trees. But that doesn’t happen, even with my 1Gb fiber connection to the US server.

In a helicopter that’s moving? Absolutely it could be a streaming data issue.

I know this is a flight simulator, not a driving simulator, and PG is meant to be experienced from altitude. I think the issue is a limitation of interpretive PG as well.
