Why is the 2d mirrored VR view so much smoother than in the actual headset (Reverb G2)

To anyone using a Reverb G2 headset, do you know why the frame buffer view on a 2d screen is much smoother than the actual Reverb G2 display. ( @mbucchia , @carm9151 )

Q. What could be causing stutters in the Reverb displays that are not visible in the mirrored view on the 2d screen?

What FPS are you running? 45 locked @ 90hz?

Unlocked @ 90hz without MR at 3500x3412.

OK well not sure exactly why the mirror seems smoother (maybe just because the same fps feels less smooth in VR by default), but the reason VR seems stuttery or unsmooth to you is because you have some random framerate running at 90hz. Unless you use reprojection, it should be at 45 or 90, the latter being very hard to achieve atm.

It’s not perceived smoothness. If I look at the mirror on the screen, it runs significantly smoother than on the display inside the headset. I’m curious why because I thought the mirror was a frame buffer, so an exact copy but it seems the headset software is doing something on top that is causing the stutter.

whats interesting is, if you change in-sim pc settings while in vr, the visuals of the mirrored image on your monitor change ( I have mine set to lowest possible because I imagine ths will give some headroom for the gpu, idk) so I guess its not 1:1 mirrored resolution and settings-wise

I have this same effect in the Oculus Quest 2. It seems like there is a something between the onscreen render and what is actually transmitted tot he headset. Lots of little settings have been tried, but still seems to be the case….

A little off topic, but I am super curious to see what Apple puts on the table next week….

Can you provide screenshots of that?

That’s the thing, it’s not MSFS causing this, it’s the WMD software, I suspect. Changing MSFS settings and lowering display resolution has no effect.

Agreed, In both 2D and mirrored VR, the Sim is silky smooth, but inside the headset…. :(. Makes me sad and I end up using Tobii most of the time now instead of VR…. :frowning:

I tried a Tobii a few years ago and it hurt my eyes :open_mouth: - wish you better luck!

The same thing is happening to me too with Quest 2
