Hi, been noticing this a lot lately, but the sea can be completely flat. I’m not talking about inland bodies of water but coasts and the sea.
Seems to be especially prevalent in Asia. I was flying about Singapore yesterday in a small aircraft and the water was so mirror like it felt like an optical illusion.
Even if the sea is calm it doesn’t look like a polished mirror does it? You would have smaller waves. And as I said I’m not in a commercial airliner here at 25-30000 ft here.
I don’t think I’ve had that with waves enabled but that means little as I mostly fly around mainland Europe or around the Isle of Man (a very windy island)
Waves are nothing but water that‘s pushed by the wind. If it‘s calm in a larger area and for a couple of hours the sea becomes like a mirror… If you‘re in a region that has no current and no wind, sure. But I‘d say it‘s rare. No idea if it happens in Singapore.
Ok @Ant1975uk go to your weather settings, click the ground layer wind (button left below) and set some wind speed. You’ll get waves… else use Life Weather, there will always be some wind…
Noticed this “problem” with waves as well. As a former sailboat crew member I can tell you that it is very unusual for the sea to look like it does in FS2020. Even in a light breeze there is some “chop” and to see the sea as a mirror almost NEVER happens. I first noticed this flying in and around Alaska and now in the North Sea around Scotland. Maybe the FS2020 programmers need to spend the day in a sailboat to see what waves really look like. FWIW
It just looks very unusual. When i was flying around Singapore with the Orbx mod, the amount of reflections in the flat mirrored sea was astounding, I was genuinely losing my bearings
The sea is always moving - I’ve never seen a seaside beach without waves. Tidal movement causes secondary effects, as the large body of water flows over undersea rocks, the wake of ships can last a long time, even fish and bird cause minor ripples, convection currents especially around coasts, etc.
