Why should we participate in the beta?

What are we supposed to do now with the beta again? (at least as a PS5 player) The last betas we were completely ignored, along with our feedback.
Low Memory Issue, HOTAS problems, poor performance, bad textures, and much more… we warned about a lot of things, we documented it in the forum, nothing happened, every time an unfinished, faulty update was delivered, which made playing impossible for weeks (sometimes months).

So, why should we invest time and effort this time if MS / Asobo don’t care what the PS5 version will be like anyway?

I too read the release notes and wonder whether I am reading them from an alternate reality. Nowadays they seem to fix things no one has mentioned or really care about and completely ignore the heat map of issues being regularly discussed here, especially with prior beta feedback.

It is sad, but all I hope for now in these betas is that they don’t break something important while rolling out all these random fixes. MS/Asobo management really needs to take a good hard look at themselves for how they handle these betas.

Unfortunately as someone that has been around since the original beta of 2020, I quickly realised that any feedback given wasn’t really taken on board.

This forum is not effective as passing information to developers for a start.

It’s all rather bizzar where priorities lie.

Also in an interview with Jorg he said the team is focusing on Career mode - I see very, very little to say anyone is remotely thinking about Career mode.
Too true Asobo/MS open Beta’s but take no notice of the community. I really think Jorg has to go back to trying to play this sim instead of talking it up to large audiences. He might see the reality of it then!

It’s probably a case of there are fixes that are ready to put out now, and ones they are still working on that will be in the next SU. I’m sure they take feedback into account but it will still need to be prioritised along with the rest of the work.

It would be nice if a clear main focus on a beta could be communicated. What’s the primary goal(s) of this upcoming SU? And how do you think the last update went? What main areas did you feel you succeeded with, and which possibly not. Does your own assessment seem to align with community feedback.

It would also be nice if the big feedback efforts were acknowledged like with ground textures, what you can use it for, and what your results and priorities are showing. I don’t personally care about a ton of new planes, air races or whatever is having focus. I want the basic features to simply work, like ground textures not looking like a joke. Especially after a lot of patient waiting.

The priority seems to be career mode and air races, stuff like that. They need content for the console crowd to do stuff, to compete, scores and money and the like, free flight doesn’t do it for that audience.

I just think there’s bigger behind the scene things happening and Jorg has to prioritize this way or bye bye funding. The traditional simmer is just along for the ride. It might also just be that the higher ups want headline features held back for the next iteration, aka 2028 so that’s where the real development budget is flowing and 24 is now in semi maintenance mode where we might get one or two more SU but really dialed down ones like su7 already seems to be.

The fact that weather seems to get degraded continuously, at least it feels this way, or that we report issues during betas that they don’t fix or often even acknoledge before final or even more laughably reintroduce as bugs in the next SU just has me completely uninterested in providing feedback anymore.

After the botched launch (which to their credit they acknowledged), Jorg indicated the first few SU would be about bug fixing. No issues - That was the right call. But after 6 (soon 7) sim updates, I reckon its time to actually start putting some meat on the bone and adding features, improving performance or expanding the sim.

I realize that we may see further features as SU7 progresses, but this initial list is really just… meh…

Asobo if you’re out of ideas about what to do next, go read the wishlist thread on your forums.

I find this tendency to view console users as preferring only “gamefied” experiences to be incorrect at best, and insulting at worst. I’ve got over 2500 hours in the game on PS5 at this point almost all in Free Flight. Have never opened the Stranger Things stuff, World Photographer, Red Bull, etc. So let’s quit the “console is the bogeyman” narrative. We are just as frustrated as everyone else on this confusion of priorities and lack of focus on existing issues.

Over 2500 hours since the PS5 release on 8. December 2025? That would be at least 278 hours of flight time per month over 9 months! At least ±9 hours of flight time every single day!? Hard to believe

All the PS5 players I know exclusively play Free Flight and try to fly as realistically as possible.
They don’t care about the career mode or anything else.

Using that as an excuse is just plain wrong.

Most people play the game on PS5 simply because they don’t have the money for a PC that can run it, but they still want to fly.

So please stop with these prejudices.

The only thing we want right now is a well-functioning game with reasonable performance, working input devices, and mostly bug-free planes.

No one, really no one on the PS5 is asking for more content like air races etc.

All the interesting activities of career mode are gated behind this silly, half-baked game layer. The rating, reputation and economy stuff is just getting in the way of the fun. The sim would be enhanced so much if they just let us design our own missions using the tools already present. Sure, fix the janky career mode for those who really like it, but it would be such an easy win to let us at the missions ourselves in free flight.

Why should we participate in beta?

Because we have a free choice to do so,
Also if people do not like the way things goes remember there is also a choice to leave beta and enjoy live for what it is.

If there are things i do not like about what they test and does not aprove up to expectations simply give low score to the builds in the polls
You can do this also without explain why so that is devs level communication.

On the other hand maybe stuff is broken sometimes it is 3th party that get hit or other console platform, people complain here, why not bring it to 3th party devs or company’s attention
As it seems to me They can be of influence more closely to Microsoft or Asobo and also they have agreements because they have accepted this product to their platforms.

Somethings maybe or not are needed to be adjusted to the course of the company for future development and these roads must be paved to
So there will be some to win some toulouse
Any way we cannot expect in beta that all works flawless ( certainly in the first 24 hours or so, otherwise why would it make sense to even run beta), and it will not be implemented directly in the sim, yes our systems are prepared to receive test enviroments but injection to will be serversided during duration of this build version.
The build that i downloaded yesterday was almost 5Gb ( this is more than double on SU6 builds) on main install.
Then there was also a lot of update available for in sim download like scenery photogrammetry etc.

But what is bothering me, is that it, seems screaming to devs and company’s and that it does not seems to be fair to me and is only demoting to other humans for doing their jobs.

Anyway im sorry for the people that the sim is not working properly for them i surely hope this will get better for them.

I was in the beta team of FSX. I applied for FS2020, but never got into it. Generally imho, beta bug reported are somewhat considered but sometimes ignored. If you would be part of the developers alpha, you could take more influence. I don’t wanna spend time testing for free. I was beta tester for Boeing / Foreflight EFB for 7 years. At least here you got some payment for it. That was worth it.

The reality is that there are so many issues and bugs that the vast majority of them will never be fixed. The developers hear the feedback and the forums are an important platform to document the various problems, but there’s simply not enough resources to get to the bottom of it all. Who knows, the next MSFS may already be in production behind the scenes and that may also require development resources (even though it may probably inherit the majority of existing bugs).

Ever since the original release of MSFS 2020, it’s been an uphill battle and a literally neverending cycle of reporting bugs and fixing some of them. It was never truly polished and then 2024 was released in an even worse condition. This sim will never be truly polished either, there are simply too many issues. The best we can do is report whatever we can and hope that the bugs affecting us the most will get attention. There are still fundamental issues from UI to Career mode to unflyable aircraft that haven’t been addressed in 2 years. No one can say if or when something may get attention. But if you stop participating then there will be even less chance for change.

Extra content all the time is the 1 thing that prevents this sim from being optimised. Everytime a new SU pops up it breaks a lot of things - I am not a fan of all these air races which hold your attention for a few hours at best. If I look at the challenges league there are barely 2 handfuls of folk who seem to play those from the leader board. Unless it is one we don’t get to see because it is so long. How many folk still play stranger things? You play it once and done!

Career mode is played by loads of players but it sure as hell does not get the attention it deserves. How many folk in a Beta test Career? You get everything, your progress does not carry over so why bother?

Is this why the Career bugs never get addressed from Beta’s, hardly anyone plays it?

You got me. After checking, the actual number across regular and beta is 1,981. I think my point still stands nonetheless.

That is a lot, but not impossible… and @DriestKnight746 already corrected himself.

But even going with his original statement, in a flight sim it is not really that hard, since you don’t have to look at your screen all the time. I work from home and do 3 to 4, ~2-3 hour flights per day on a regular day. What’s more, I am a mountain biker and I ride every day (unless the weather is terrible or I am injured), so I schedule my sim flights around my work and trainings.

In my case, I just take off before leaving for training and (for example) if I plan to be back in 90mins, I do a 140min flight so I have some margin of error. I mainly fly airliners so I just turn on the a/p after take off (I like to hand fly so that’s usually around 10k ft) and I can go back to work or go for a ride, then I just have to be back for descent and approach.

I also do long rides or long Downhill trainings at least once per week and it takes me ~8-10 hours in total… so guess when I do my long haul flights?

Of course I also like to do some more ‘involved’ flying - practicing patterns, emergencies/failures etc., but I leave it for evenings and weekends.

I am also on console btw.

Couldn’t agree more. Very well said.

Yeah, the performance degradation in SU7 was bad enough for me to roll back to stable. I’m going to sit this one out for the time being, SU6 was running silky smooth.
