SUMMARY:

AIRCRAFT: Wilga 35X or 80X (or similar performance light GA / bush plane)

WHEN: Saturday 9th September 2023 at 21:30 UTC
SERVER: South East Asia
FUEL: 100% filled
LIVERY: Any DEFAULT Wilga livery (important so we see each others Willys  )
ENGINE REALISM: On

MORE INFO:

Please install this mod if you can:

There are so many amazing strips around here, but for this I have picked out 14 pretty close to each other in the east of PNG.

Starting at PAP24, take off on RWY01 and we will head up over the mountain to your right to start off. Will probably be around hour and half flight when all is said and done.

You will really need to take care of the motor. I did a test run and didn’t make it far so this will be interesting and new to us all apart from the first 3 stops! Remember it’s not a race, so let’s just take it easy and look after her using the valves for descents etc. Engine realism on though please - we can do it!

This is the route:

Download PLN: Dropbox - Baracus_East_Papua.pln - Simplify your life

Or LNM file: Dropbox - Baracus_East_Papua.lnmpln - Simplify your life

Also here is a little text guide to the challenges ahead and advice for each strip, should you be inclined to care about that stuff: Dropbox - Baracus East Papua - FLIGHT GUIDE.txt - Simplify your life

My finger was hovering over the ‘Buy’ button for the Wilga last weekend. This event may convince me. Even if it is cheating, sort of.

Hey come and join us man - I would love to have you along for the trip!! And if you can survive the whole thing with engine realism on and next to zero experience of Wilma’s engine foibles, you will have REALLY proved yourself as a pilot lol. The landings might be easy (easier than in your Kodi around here I suppose! Is that what you meant by cheating?) but you will probably wished for a cheat mode to last the distance with the engjne shock cooling tendencies around these temperate valleys

You have a few days to get your eye in!

In all seriousness though, you really need to have Wilma in your collection!

Hi @Baracus250 ,

I really like the Wilga! I saw a red one in one of Trent Palmer videos on YouTube. What a monster!!
It had a turbine pratt and whitney engine too.

This one is the one I would like to have in the simulator.

I’ll be there! Now is there an English language POH for the Wilga?

(And yes the amazing STOL capability was what I meant by cheating!)

Maybe this is what you looking for.

Awesome!!!

The game is to land as close to the start of the “runway” (= slightly shorter cut grass bit  ) as possible, put the chocks on when you’re stopped and wait till all others are down, and we’ll see who manages the shortest stop at each leg.

So it’s not quite as simple and easy as just getting her down and stopped anywhere on the strip - if you want to min-max things without nosing over! There is definitely a technique to it. It’s not serious though, just a bit of fun.

I’ll grab a screenshot of each leg when everyone is down so we can see what happened

In the DoubleEnder it has the handy Competition Mode screen with roll distance read out. But that means you don’t really have to aim for the very beginning of the runways when we only use total roll distance “anywhere” so this way is something a bit different another aspect to think about aiming for.

Yea that Draco is nuts for sure! Hope one day it will come but last I heard I think it got wrecked (maybe has been or will be rebuilt) so GF couldn’t or were not allowed to model it yet. For sound recording perhaps - I’m not sure.

Looks like there is one to buy here but can’t see a free available one tbf

Sad to hear it got wrecked.

About this groupflight, is there a way to watch you guys, other than flying with the pack. Unfortunately i can’t join that date, but if you are about to stream the flight, I am happy to watch.

Have a good one!

Cheers

Mark

I have not set myself up for streaming yet and not even sure how so unlikely for this event, but I will see what I can do!

Should be awesome, but please, don’t feel obligated
I am happy to accompany your flights in the future.

Hi there! I recently started getting into bush planes and low level flying after seeing a few videos of the freedom fox and i caved in and bought the freedom fox from //42 off the marketplace(On Xbox Series X btw)

This was a good break from flying alot of the pmdg 737-800. I finally get to appreciate some of the amazing textures and trees the sim has to offer in some areas of the world!

How do I join you guys in this upcoming group flight? I would buy the willy just for this, but I don’t know if I have the custom airstrips to buy from the marketplace.

Thanks in advance!!

I can stream, or record for VOD

Unfortunately this round won’t work on Xbox I think. I might be wrong - the clearings we land on may well be there (it has worked in the past, even on a route that was using a mod that was only PC, the strips were still there on the sat imagery) so you could give it a test run and check the first few stops perhaps. Just they won’t be marked as ICAO codes on your end (I think… I don’t have an Xbox to test on).

Can you load that flight plan onto Xbox? Or use a laptop with LittleNavMap?

For sure it will be easier when there are other planes to follow… you could let us land first and you will see where we go

That would be great! I bought an Envato capture card but have not had time to fit it yet. I will try on Saturday morning but won’t probably get things running in time for this event. I will learn though!

Nice. Just to be pedantic - this is not in Papua New Guinea at all: it’s in a different country. This is the western part of the island of New Guinea, which has been called West Papua province (of Indonesia) or Irian Jaya in the past - more recently Papua province, officially, but even more recently it’s been split into seven smaller provinces. I think this route is in the province of Highland Papua. Overall western New Guinea is controlled by the nation of Indonesia (but there is a significant rebel independence movement).

Pedantry accepted!
You’re right of course. Sorry about my lack of precision in the naming there. Whoopsiedaisy

It was a great trip though! Love flying that whole area — it’s a great challenge.

Nice one Baracus! For the live stream of the event.

Looking at the results - winners are:
Leg 1: Bart
Leg 2: CodeHam
Leg 3: CodeHam
Leg 4: CodeHam
Leg 5: Baracus
Leg 6: Baracus
Leg 7: Not sure - Screenshot is confusing, sorry! I think SubLogicKiwi, or DudeMcdongle, or Bart. See screen below - can anyone remember this one?
Leg 8: Baracus
Leg 9: AlpineBravo
Leg 10: SubLogicKiwi
Leg 11: Baracus
Leg 12: Baracus
Leg 13: DudeMcdongle

Feel free to disagree. I think next time I will write the results down 1-by-1 as we go, lol

Setting off the very short take off 1st strip!

Confusing Leg 7 result

Not sure if Bart could really stop in that distance, so I think it was to SubLogicKiwi?
