Will camera system get better

This sim has come a long way but the camera system keeps me from using it. We have only 10 user defined camera views and with a complex aircraft that really is not enough. What is needed is 10 camera views for each section, cockpit, external, instrument for example. I wish a 3rd app like ChasePlane would come out. I hope a future SUx looks at this.

How many views are there in a real aircraft?

In a perfect world, I could live with no presets at all.
I’d have 5 screens (forward, left, right, instrument panel, overhead) and that’s it

This is a simulation, not a ā€œrealā€ aircraft, so you’ll need a good view system.
All other flight simulators have this…

Exactly More so when there’s only one screen

What still really bothers me is the fact that there’s no full forward view without instruments or chase plane.
Iā€m having a home cockpit so this would be a very useful addition to me and others.
Also, a classic fly by view is welcome too..

I think the view system is quite good actually, they got a lot of things right. The best for me is the way the view tilts during turns, simulating how the pilot moves the head towards the turn but not fully. They got that really well, much better than ezdok or chaseplane in the old days.

However if someone wanted to use a 3rd party tool, why not, I agree it shouldn’t be locked.

So many design decisions in this sim appear to have been made in the knowledge that it would be a dual-platform PC and console game and so a design that is ā€˜workable’ for both platforms is what we end up with. A compromise. The camera system is much more like that of a mainstream game than it is like the other sim platforms and given Asobo’s background in games development that’s not entirely surprising.

Getting Asobo to spend significant time working on what would be PC-only features like a full camera API that something like ChasePlane could use is probably hard for Microsoft to justify, unless legions of us were crying out for it and upvoting it on the wishlist. Which sadly is not happening.

It would also be nice to be able to move the camera anywhere without having to update the camera.cfg view position. I had to do that with the PMDG 737

Between moving your eyes around and moving/shifting your head, I’d guess tens of thousands. With the added benefit of depth perception.

I would just like to see more than 10 positions, there are outside views to consider and using a joystick button setup is very nice to have. I just got spoiled with ChasePlane, but being able to move anywhere with the keyboard and set a position in the custom camera in and outside the plane would be nice

Create a custom view that is further forward, so the cockpit cannot be seen. If ideal, but you can do that right now.

In practise, camera views can list which nodes are not displayed. An example would be an instrument view that hides the yokes.

If you knew the nodes/objects, perhaps you can hide the entire plane, or at least those forward of the pilot camera.

Ive been fiddling many hours with this tedious camera system but never had a satisfying result.
The point is that to get rid of the instruments you have to zoom in.
That’s why a simple key toggle like FSX had would be nice (press S)

Those are all different directions of view, not different viewpoints.

If theres 3 things MSFS should copy from XPLane its the internal custom views (a lot more than just the default 10) , the external views (F keys) & the replay system (simple timeline like YouTube).

Tower view please miss that !

You don’t only have zoom. It is possible to translate the camera forwards as well, without zoom.
