Will SU9 be a game breaker?

I have opted out the beta program as I suffer a lot of issues with previous beta

Now I see a lot of reports in the beta section of the community about issues on the new coming SU9 I would like to avoid

Will be the new version tested enough to keep the experience at (at least) the same level as the current one ?

Time will tell

The current beta is working okay for me, but I only use 1 addon.

I have hundreds of addons, Logitech yoke and panels, stream deck profiles, etc…

I’m also a casual addon developer and the Dev-mode has been proven as a really good CTD generator

My condolences.

Well if MS Asobo had followed my advice, updates would be optional, or at least able to be delayed.

Isn’t one of the requirements of testing new SU’s that you remove all addons in order to get a clean test experience? Seems to me you would need to have everyone testing the beta using the same foundation. Also - since the addons need to be reviewed and often adjusted to maintain compatibility with these updates that you should expect CTD’s if they are not removed for SU beta testing…

It’s a general recommendation made upon each and every update’s release, not a requirement.

that’s surprising - I would expect that if a tester says this SU is a CTD generator and in the same post says he has a ton of addons installed while testing…

Since the SU builds are normally close to release (like the current Beta release which I don’t expect to change anymore) it makes sense to test them both with and without addons. After all, if it only works without addon’s it won’t be of much use for the majority of people …

There are new forum sections that allow people to discuss problems with 3rd party addons or marketplace items during the beta.

Remember that part of the beta is to test functionality of 3rd party add ons. It’s literally one of the stated goals and there’s literally a section in the Beta forum to report issues with 3rd party mods.

Bottom-Line Up Front: it’s not expected that add-ons would work with a Beta.

Longer Version:

The Add-Ons have to likely be updated (hence places like Flighsim.to putting SU Version Compatibility warnings with each download), and it’s up to the individual authors to do so. If they don’t participate in the Beta and align a release, then they’ll likely do so after SU production release. This isn’t a new phenomenon. There is always a gap period between compatibility after a sim core code update.

sure - but it is also recommended that once the official SU is installed by us users that we disable, rename, or delete our community folders and slowly add our addons back in one by one - to prevent endless CTD’s and to find the ‘culprit’ - indicating that many addons are not updated prior to release and would therefore be expected to cause CTD’s

you answered my question as I was typing it -thank you

That’s been the recommended procedure for updates for the sim, beta or not. And is good practice to help eliminate CTDs or other issues caused by 3rd party add-ons.

The short answer is ‘probably’

I’m not sure what it means to make updates optional, but that doesn’t sound like a good idea. You decide not to install update number 12 for example, then here comes update number 15 that fixes some CTD issues. You continue to suffer CTDs, but you can’t install update 15 because you decided to stop with update 12. Imagine the mess when people complained on the forums. The very first question we would have to ask is “Have you installed all your optional updates?”

If that’s not what you meant, then disregard.

Kinda just hoping for a better SU9 than was SU8, for me.

I’ve counted more CTD’s at loading aircraft in SU8 than I’ve had the combined total of all the other iterations of MSFS - including the initial release in Aug’20.

Just got another one tonight.

Completly agree, same for me…
