YES! With a caveat. I started with the Logitech Multipanel, then the Switch Panel, plus two TM Boeing Throttle Quadrants (with one knob and a three-way selector on each). Now I have the Streamdeck XL. I could pretty easily do away with the two Logitechs and do all my autopilot and lights/switches with a Streamdeck. I will say that the TM Boeing knobs are pretty low quality compared to the throttles and their excellent Yoke, but they get the job done sort of. I’ll guess the SD Plus has much higher quality knobs.
The only caveat/downside with the SDs is that it takes a LOT of effort (and Spad.Next or similar) to program them. You can find a lot of snippets and help online to get it working, and there are companies such as Flight Panels that will do it all for you for six different aircraft (airliners mostly). But if you program it yourself, it will become a major “time suck”. The Spad.Next snippet/profile catalog has a fair number of user contributions for some aircraft, but it’s sometimes hard to find other more obscure ones. They do have a very active Discord forum with lots of helpful folks, though.
A big Yes from my side. Take a close search at flightsim.to and you will find a lot. Together with the payware tool axis and ohs it is brilliant. Even with the freeware tool flight track you can create useful profiles.
You do not NEED more than one StreamDeck, but the more you have, the move controls you can have visible at any one time, without having to switch to a different screen.
During Development, it certainly helps to have multiple devices, to help display large numbers of debug variables at the same time, in a flexible way.
Two StreamDeck-xls and two X-Touch Minis
Well worth the expense on time saved when debugging
(Time is Money)
I’ve invested in a SD XL and a SD+
I’m starting to get a little more proficient with SPAD.
Thank goodness I enjoy programming almost as much as I enjoy flying…
I have a question, though. I’ve gotten mixed answers elsewhare.
Can I use program a button on the XL to open a page on the Plus?
For example: Can I have a button on the XL that opens a radio panel page on the Plus, so i can use the knobs on the Plus to tune the radio?
I see that Les O’Reilly (one of the SPAD gurus, who has created a lot of good SPAD videos) built a box using the XL, with four dual-concentric knobs controlled by an Arduino Leornardo.
I’m considering building one of those and selling the SD+
But only if I can’t do the integration between the two SD units like I’m thinking.
I currently use 3 x SD consisting of 1x32 and 2x15 but would love the SD Plus for manipulating glass cockpits (G1000/G3000 rotaries etc) and such oddities as setting QNH on the altimeter, but have yet to see any general purpose profiles that would allow such operation ordemonstrate them. Anybody have any clues? Axis and Ohs in use at this end. I love the Streamdeck to bits.
Thanks v much.Am familiar with Guenseli for his profiles on the 15 and 32 button SDs but if any kind soul could confirm whether the Plus profiles will do what I need them to do, then I will splash out on the plus in a flash. I think that I would have to upgrade A and O as well if my limited research to date is correct.
Thank you for taking the time to reply to my query, it is appreciated.
You can definitely change pages across devices without AAO. That functionality is native to the SD software itself using the Multi-action control. But, you need some software to connect the SDs to FlightSimulator. I believe there is some freeware plug-in but I’m not sure if it is any good.
All the good panels on Flightsim.to either use AAO or are payware themselves.
I use 3 15-button streamdecks.
In general I have one for cameras where I program for each aircraft a button for my custom cameras or cockpit cameras with an image of the camera (very handy). This is because in some planes ctrl-8 is the overhead panel, in others I have to set a custom camera for it so it gets messy to remember each thing.
The other two streamdecks I use for aicraft systems, in general MCP, FCU and AP things. I use Spad.Next to program them and I can certainly say you can do anything you want with Spad but it takes a lot of time to program things and there is a huge lack of online profiles that can be used directly or as a way to start. I have only glimpsed Axis and Ohs, I think it is less powerful than Spad but it does have more online profiles readily available. Anyway programming buttons is a therapy for me so I like it.
Some people here mentioned an x-touch mini, I have one and is a HUGE help, it is very easy to setup with Spad and has a lot of knobs for aircraft rotaries so I would say an x-touch mini is more helpful than the streamdecks and is also faster to configure/program.
