Win11 24H2 Terrible Performance

Specs: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D. GTX 4070 Super, 32 GB DDR5 6000. Nvidia Driver 572.16, running DX11.

I’m getting single bursts of single digit framerates on the ground, no matter the airport, no matter the aircraft. This was not a problem until Windows forced me to install the big update. Looking for advice. I’m about to try DX12 and see if that affects performance.

Edit: DX12 much worse. FrameGen wouldn’t even start and locked up the sim. In both versions of DX I get bursts of 40+ fps and then it just goes to single digits or 1. Especially when changing to external view.

Try rolling back the gpu driver to the last stable one you used.

Hm, 24H2 has been alright for me. I just did a flight in the Black Square Duke.

i9-14900KF / RTX 4090 / 64GB DDR5 RAM @ 6000 / NVMe M.2 SSD / Nvidia Driver 572.16.

These are my settings…

I should note, I was having the same bad performance with that older driver. I don’t recall the exact version. I had hoped that the new version would take into account Win11 24H2.

Do you have the nvidia app installed as this has been causing many problems for some users with WIN 24H2.

I just had the bare driver installed an decided to try the app…I’ll be uninstalling it again.

Tried '24 and the situation was actually worse. Got the same problems after loading. When I clicked “fly” my PC locked up completely. I think it was using 100% of CPU but I couldn’t see the load meter. I had to manually power down the PC.

Edit: Rolling back to driver 566.14 and DX11.

No issues here with 2024. This is sounding like a hardware issue. If you’re coming across crashes to desktop I suggest taking a look at Windows Event Viewer or if complete PC crashes the Windows dump file.

After the driver rollback, the reboot, and DX11 it appears to be behaving again.

There does seem to be a problem with 190_E65870 under ProgramData\NVIDIA\NGX however with this problem MSFS crashes when you launch it (it crashes around the midpoint of loading). Deleting everything with the 190_E65870 name bypasses this issue. I have no idea if deleting these will cause any problems at some point. This issue does not affect MSFS 2024 it seems.

Could you please clarify what you mean by big update? Are you referring to the update from Windows 11 23H2 to 24H2?

I don’t think this is a 24H2 issue.

This is what I am using…

Recently finished a 3 hour flight in 2020 and had no problems whatsoever. Went back to 2024 and it too is peachy. My PC is pretty bare bones and only use it for gaming.

i also had bad landing stutters with most recent driver and rolled back. might be worth a try

Roll back to Game Ready Driver 566.36. the new on is trash for fs2024
